Few if any people are going to be interested in this subject.  But since this is my current career, I'll point you to some interesting and maybe disturbing trends.

First up, the recently patented new Airbus Airplane design: The Flying Doughnut?

Leave it to the French to redesign the wheel, er passenger plane.  As for secrecy and confidentiality, I will not divulge anything I can't confirm that's already out there on the Intranet.

This Photo Has China's Military Scared Stiff (Japan Now Has the F-35)

I've actually worked on the F-35, among other military aircraft.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I read this a couple of days ago and found it interesting.

F-35 Lightning II
And well they should be, and of our's and America's pilots!

The F-35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation fighter, combining advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment. Three variants of the F-35 will replace legacy fighters for the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps, and 10 other countries around the world.

I love military aircraft. I live not far away from an important RAAF base and see then every day. A close friend of mine is an air frame fitter with the RAAF, he gets me into the base and I can sit in the cockpit of aircraft while he is with me on the base.

Thank you.  I found it very interesting about the U2s in particular.  I've worked on similar aircraft, but I didn't know the ceiling for successful flight and what the pilots had to go through.  As for cameras, I'm sure they weren't using cellphones.

One of CNNs links pointed me to the A-10 Warthog.  I've never been more satisfied in my 44 years as a design engineer than when I worked on the A-10 Warthog.  God bless and protect all those who put their lives on the line for our freedoms.

More improvements are coming, but I may retire before then.

The following is a link to an article of a DARPA announcement.  Beyond that, I can't sat anything.

Source: DARPA Unveils Details of New Engine

I got to work on my company's version of this thru phase 2.  Then someone with more pull and experience took over and we lost phase 3.  And that's all I can say.
