You have to register to be able to read the whole article, but reading about the scientific research premise is interesting.

Humans are wired to believe in the supernatural.

Well the supernatural focuses on Satan and evil so yes unless we always wear our armor Satan can become our focus. Adam and Eve and the fall. Satan wants to give us everything we have ever wanted.

That does not automatically translate into "superstitious".  Bible Christianity is supernatural but paganism is superstitious.

OK, that's not what the article had anything to do with...it was more about spirituality vs atheism...but OK.

Why bother when the author has this to say:

That’s because evolution has endowed us with cognitive tendencies that, while useful for survival, also make us very receptive to religious concepts.

Either God has endowed us with whatever we have, or "evolution" has endowed us.  Well we know that evolution is nonsense, so this writer has nothing to really offer.

Ezra, if you were debating with atheists concerning belief in God, would you refuse to point to this source as a defense in your belief of the supernatural due to the biased perspective of the author? Even though it speaks to the atheists in their own language that belief in the supernatural is in our genes?

Nebula,

Personally I would not "debate" with atheists but turn around and ask an atheist to demonstrate how something can create itself.

Take a model airplane and put all the pieces on one table and then ask the atheist how those pieces would come together in an orderly fashion on their own. Since that is obviously impossible, it is the perfect rebuttal to the foolish atheistic notion that the universe put itself together "on its own".

Every time I've seen this argument presented, I've seen the atheists discount it for this reason and that reason.

Funny, when I saw this article, I was thinking it could be a witnessing tool the way Paul used the Temple to The Unknown God.
