Depends on how the government defines "mental illness."   Stalin locked up political dissenters in asylums on the grounds that they were "mentally ill."

The CDC, or government agency that would likely be employed in the case of this new rule, defines mental illness per the standards set forth in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistics Manual. https://www.cdc.gov/mentalhealth/basics/mental-illness.htm

There is always the first time and this happens a lot. It only takes once for a person to kill someone because they really lost their temper. There will always be opportunities for a person to get a gun not matter what your previous offenses have been. You just need to know the right person and have the right amount of cash.

Shiloh beat me to it.

If temper is a standard to preclude a persons right to own a firearm, then that person is also able to be prohibited from existing at all in the free world. Because there are a great many options besides firearms one can employ as weapons.

Precisely.

I think what is being pursued by the Obama administration is the disarming of the American population. Which is not likely of course. But the effort itself should be a forewarning I think.

Suit yourself. But we do regulate cars and that has made them safer. How many people can a single person kill with a knife in 10 seconds.

In a populated area and a large knife between 5 to 8.    With a sword 10 to 15.

How many people can a single person get down with a gun? 50 or more? It is a whole different ball game of a bomb or flying a plane into the side of a building.

A car can become a lethal weapon.

And overseas as we've seen reported of late, trucks are employed by terrorists as a deadly weapon. The same can happen in America. Should we outlaw cars and trucks if someone has a temper?

Would you be able to drive if that were to become law?

Of would we outlaw sharp objects, rocks, swords, household chemicals because they can be used as poisonous weapons? In the case of a domestic disturbance call that police responded to, should the officials seize all those items so as to preclude injury to the parties in that house? Tempers being on display, all knives, rocks in the yard or drive, household chemicals, are seized so as to preclude thought crime in the future?

Or how about outlawing Tylenol? That can be deadly. An excuse for guns.

in ten seconds with a semi automatic not more than two a second unless they are using ammunition that penetrates more than one body.    A few people can pull the trigger three times a second, but it takes time to move to a different target.   To actually kill the person you have to hit them in one of several strategic places and unless one has a huge amount of practice getting off more than one shot a second isn't really realistic.

If two or three people are standing beside each other one could kill all three with one half second stroke.

Well you get two people pulling that trigger and you have a real tragedy. Just look at the news.

I don't understand your last sentence there and how it ties to your prior sentences. An excuse for guns? Outlawing Tylenol that can be deadly?
