God sees into the hearts of men and women. He has always done this and always will. God’s heart does not change. The hearts of people are subject to change. I have learned that change can be either good or bad. How will we know what is good or bad when it comes to changing our hearts? God’s word. The Holy Bible gives us the living word of God and reveals his character.

The Bible says that our words reflect our hearts. So, the things we say reveal the character of our hearts. Now, we are not talking about our physical heart which pumps blood through our bodies. We are talking about our inner spirit or inner person. We are talking about that very core of our character which guides our lives. For a Christian this guidance must come from God’s Spirit.

Jesus said that a good person has good things in their heart. So a good person speaks the good things from their heart. Jesus also said that evil people have evil in their hearts, and so they speak evil things. Good hearts produce good words, evil hearts produce evil words.

Ephesians 4:29 New Living Translation (NLT) 29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Luke 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
