God definitely wants us to take pleasure in eating. It should be with right attitude though. Are we giving thanks to Lord for all the wonderful tasty food He has blessed us with? Are we asking God to bless the food to our body? Are we acknowledging God that He is the one who enabled us to have this food? We should do everything with thanksgiving. Includes eating!! On the other hand, gluttony is nothing but food worship. When we remove gratefulness to God and simply look at food as something that brings pleasure to the flesh. That's when we exceed more than what our body needs and end up with sin of gluttony

It's the excess and the celebrant sensationalism involved. It is the pride of exhibiting excess for the sheer sensation of exhibition, dangling what you have in excess in front of those who have it not in excess. Just consider the imagery emblazoned on those old Victorian era Christmases or the front of those Sears wish book catalogues that came out at Christmas time. What did those images strike up in the minds of those who didn't have the wealth to afford them? Today as in in olden times it sowed the seeds of inferiority and in a way that is against everything that Christ stood for. The pocketbook. Edited February 17, 2017 by Churchmouse

He wants us to take pleasure in what he provides for us. God also wants us to have healthy appetites. Our health is God's concern and sometimes food can be an addiction. Christians seem to ignore the fact that gluttony is a sin. They want to point their fingers at those who drink alcohol or those who smoke. But gluttony is right up there with other addictions. We need to eat a healthy diet with healthy portions. But sometimes we can splurge. I like to do that sometimes as well Nothing with "once in a while" but to live w recklessly is not good. These bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and we are to care for them and that means putting good food into them and taking care of them.
