Matthew 24:15   When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Matthew 24:16   Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

Matthew 24:17   Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

Matthew 24:18   Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

Jerusalem is fleeing because WAR is coming.  All the armies are coming in.

NOTE:  The armies coming in are at the 6th trumpet/6th vial stage.  These go side by side.

"The Abomination of Desolation" would be closer to THE END of the GREAT TRIBULATION.  Great tribulation on the world.  It is going to be UGLY, and it happens 1 trumpet before the last which is the 7th.  Closer to the end....not the beginning of the tribulation.

Revelation 16:12   And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

Revelation 16:13   And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 16:14   For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Revelation 9:14   Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

Revelation 9:15   And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Revelation 9:16   And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

Two hundred million soldiers coming in to Israel is going to cause a panic, for not only Jerusalem citizens, but the whole of Israel.  Rev 9 shows us the total number of soldiers there, and Rev 16 shows us that the Kings of the East is crossing over the Euphrates.

Now, I cannot understand why many state that "the abomination of desolation" marks the beginning of the tribulation, and not near the end?

Please follow because I am getting to what "the abomination of desolation" is exactly from the way I view these scriptures.

Daniel 11:36   And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

This is the FP.  He is the King of the North (Jer 25:9)

Daniel 11:37   Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

Daniel 11:40   And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

Another King of the North is pushing against him.  Far North, Russia perhaps?  Regardless, we can see that he is conquering nations and expanding his territories but.... when his kingdom is coming to an end, the king of the south and king of the (far) north are stirring him up.  He is now facing "resistance"

Daniel 11:41   He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

This is just telling us that he's also going to conquer Jerusalem.  It's just stating a fact.  Other scriptures give more detail that he already came into Jerusalem at his entrance on to the stage (Jer 25:29),...where he begins.

Daniel 11:42   He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

Daniel 11:43   But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

He doesn't quite make it to these lands because;

Daniel 11:44   But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

Daniel 11:45   And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

He plants his "temple", ....his headquarters in Jerusalem, but it says tabernacles (plural), so those nations who are on his side set up office there also under his umbrella.  They would be the leaders and chief commanders making Jerusalem their headquarters as well, defiling the holy city even more.

So whilst all this is going on, the two witness have been there the whole time preaching and sending plagues.

Revelation 11:3   And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Revelation 11:4   These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Revelation 11:5   And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Revelation 11:6   These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

Look at the power they will be given!  This is all happening during the plagues of the first 6 angels.  They will get the blame and be hated by all men.

Revelation 11:7   And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

Revelation 11:8   And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

Revelation 11:9   And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

Revelation 11:10   And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

Revelation 11:11   And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

Revelation 11:13   And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Revelation 11:14   The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

The two witness are killed, and the whole earth is rejoicing.  The FP in his eyes has accomplished something spectacular.  Not only did he persecute and kill nearly all of the saints, but these two men of God, who were once untouchable are now DEAD.  His pride rises even further because he thinks he has defeated God.  After THIS DEFEAT, he THINKS HE'S GOD.;

2 Thessalonians 2:4   Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

He cannot show himself as God whilst the two witnesses were alive?  He would look foolish.  They had the true power from God to embarrass him and his kingdom.  Only after they are KILLED, can he make this claim.

THIS IS THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION.  When he thinks he's WON, and sits in his temple declaring himself God.  This is when evil has come to the full.

Daniel 8:23   And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

The beast only rules for 3 1/2 yrs.  It's not a long reign.  At the "latter time" of their kingdom, "not the beginning" of their kingdom, ..but at the END, is when this FIERCE KING, shows his true colours and full of PRIDE ...STANDS UP calling himself GOD.  Boasting.  The world is rejoicing over the death of the two witnesses.  This is when EVIL HAS COME TO THE FULL.

This is THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION.

It is not the start of his temple, but the finish of it.

/continued (Maybe)

Now his end, and Babylon's end will come soon.  So when Israel and the Christian land really know what that "Abomination of Desolation" stands for, expect the KINGS of the EAST, to come in to war the beasts kingdom, kicking off the 3rd WW with all the armies gathering in ISRAEL.  They in Judah will flee for their lives.  This war will be cut short, with man against man, and nation against nation, then another war will take place straight after, and those armies already there, will gather at Megido to war the LAMB.  God has mustered them all there in the one place, so they can be buried together.

The Abomination that causes Desolation comes in the middle of the Tribulation, but at the beginning of the Great Tribulation or the final 3 1/2 years of it.

Actually the whole tribulation is "great"

The Lord's time tested revenge against the unbelieving world .... 2520 days of His wrath .... non-stop

He will first protect the 144000 of Israel from any harm so that they can spread the gospel of the kingdom .... then He will execute His wrath and judgment upon a world of total disbelief

But just before He will call His true ecclesia of the dead in Christ of all previous ages and those living at the time to immortality

Then He will personally execute judgment upon the earth with the first being upon the "great city" of the Gentiles [8:6-12; 14:8; 17:16-18; 18:1-21]

It is at the middle of the period that the abomination will be present in the Middle East when the antichrist and his contingent will invade and hold Israel for 3.5 years, then to be destroyed in the abyss at Armageddon

I agree with you Sister that the abomination of desolation is close to the end of the "tribulation".

If my interpretation of Daniel 12:11-12 is correct:

Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

The daily sacrifice will be taken away and then 1,290 days later, the abomination of desolation will be set up.  Forty-five days later will be the "blessed is he who waiteth and cometh to" day; the 1,335th day of that timeline.  The 1,335th day will be the day that Jesus returns to save Israel and Jerusalem from the invasion by the nations at the Battle of Armageddon.

Daily sacrifice taken away ----(1,290 days until) ---- the abomination of desolation set up ----(44 days until) ---- (the 1,335th day).

The 44 days between the abomination of desolation and the 1,335th day will the great tribulation period.

The scriptures are clear

The first 1260 days will involve the anti-christ's maneuvering to secure the Middle East .... then he will invade the land of Israel and rule for the next 1260 days

Hi Sister,

Funny enough, for the last few weeks I have been re-assessing the abomination of desolation interpretation too, and guess what?

I found the key that unlocks the timing of it all for us .. it also shines the light on a bunch of other related prophecies in such a way that they put themselves into stunning order, finally making clear particular scriptures which were once cloudy but cloudy no more.

Interested?

Watching for Jesus

Amen brother!  You nailed it!

Writing this whole post out has helped me realise something I said wrong to someone here the other day.  I said that the 3 1/2 years is the tribulation total to when Christ comes.

To correct myself, as it's obvious, I must state that the 1290 days (3 1/2 years) is only until the false prophet stands up and declares himself god, after he's killed the two witnesses. The abomination of desolation.  We know that Christ comes to judge another 45 days after this, so I was wrong, and it became so clear last night, that I have to be really careful and think before I speak so that the truth can flow without distortion.
