If you do it for show, to elevate yourself, then you are off track. Motive counts for a lot, consider the Pharisees!

We need to stay humble.

It's your choice, by whom might you desire to be to be rewarded? But even more than by whom; do you even want to know yourself? Might you prefer to just do without counting nor accounting of what you might have done? Why not let good works and generosity be your personality, not accounting for it at all to anyone, man or God- just do. Matthew 6English Standard Version (ESV) Giving to the Needy 6 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Again; "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret." Guest
Everything that we do should be for the Glory of GOD and all credit should be give to Jesus Christ. If you can help someone without them knowing that it was you, than that is what you should do. If you have to be seen helping someone or doing good, than you should give Jesus Christ as the reason that you are doing it. Otherwise, you will receive your glory on Earth; whereas if you can do it in secret you will receive your Glory in Heaven. As Omegaman 3.0 said, motive is what counts. What do ye think ?, Jeremiah 9New American Standard Bible (NASB) 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9King James Version (KJV) 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
