If Grace has no basis in works, then why is Faith without Works dead? Then what is the point of doing work?

Lets look ...

Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

We can see that by grace, through faith, we are saved.  Not from works, but we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good work, which God prepared beforehand that we should do them.  James tells us that faith without works is dead, meaning, the persons faith is not bearing fruit, like a dead branch on a vine.  We are to bear fruit, which is a good work.

Thank you OneLight

I guess what I'm trying to understand is, if we through faith can get Grace, why should we do works besides  just being good people? Works would not benefit nor tarnish our Grace, so why should we do Works?

We do not do works to get something in return, not that we will not, but out motivation is not giving to get. We do things, because that is what God created us for, and as believers, we love God, are obedient and thankful.

Be saved, being born again, is the natural outgrowth of the changes that God has made in us.

Faith alone, saves, but saving faith, is not alone.

Thing is, if we are really saved we will want to know God more.  The more we know Him, the more the Holy Spirit can create in us a new person, one who enjoys doing the work He has for us to do.  In fact, I personally look forward to doing things for God.

I want to also. I believe he wants me to. However experience so many troubles and then it makes me wonder. I have faith, I enjoy doing works, but why am I hit with so much turmoil and where is God when I need him? Sometimes I just get so tired, I wonder if the works are worth it? Sorry for venting. I just wish I had a clear answer sometimes.

Maybe the answers are not as vague and elusive as you think, persevere, you will be amazed at what you understand, and wonder later, how you missed the simplicity of it all!

When we become a believer in Christ and make a decision to follow Him, we are actually taking sides in the spiritual warfare that has been going on since Satan turned against God.   We can see in Ephesians 6:10-20 about this battle and the Whole Armor of God we have to protect us.  Like any warrior, if you are in the battle, the closer you are to the front lines, the more you are shot at/attacked.
