I would have assumed as much Church.  Your reply earlier was spot on.

No one is forced to call upon or even listen to anything a Muslim pastor has to say.

He can prohibit the use, carrying  or reading of the Bible by soldiers as was done in muslim countries that we have sent troops and advisors to.

During Desert Storm, CentCom had sent a directive that all personnel deployed to Saudi Arabia shouldn't flaunt their non-Muslim faiths in front of the Saudis.

But with the exception of our brigade chaplain -- who wore a removable Velcro cross on his Kevlar helmet -- no one in my unit took the directive that seriously.

Where does one get the information that upholds your assumptions on this person's power.

Some time after 2008?,  when our troops were in Iraq,  a letter from a chaplain to one of our churches' prayer warriors was read aloud in our Wednesday night service.  The chaplains were told that the troops were no longer allowed to carry even Gideons Bibles in Iraq, and that the order came from "high up" in the command.  He was asking for prayer from our church.  The best I can remember that wbefore the troops were withdrawn from Iraq and sent to Afghanistan.

Without knowing when and where this order came from, there is no way for me to verify an anecdotal story.

The right to practice one's religion is constitutional and this story flies in the face of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." aka the Free Exercise Clause. How can any command give such an illegal order, and how did it plan to enforce it as military personnel are not required to follow illegal orders?

I always thought that the Military had religious leaders for whatever religion you were. I did not know that one person was in charged of religious needs regardless of a person's religion.

Nope.

Besides, didn't you ever watch MASH?  There was one episode where (Catholic) Father Mulcahy had to assume the duties of a rabbi for a Jewish soldier.  And there's no source more accurate when it comes to military life than MASH, right?

Blessings,
