Rachel Maddow misled the Twittersphere into thinking she had a bombshell revelation about the president’s 2005 tax returns; however, the tax return showed no wrongdoing at all by Trump — and the MNSBC host's plunging ratings have reflected viewers’ discontent with her deception.

Speaking of ratings, Trump isn't doing too hot either. It looks like people are fed up with both of them.

It is also what one would call fake news in that it only tells a small, biased part of the story.   The day she ran her flop of a story about the tax return was a record setting day for her, it was her largest audience ever, but a large margin.   No matter what the tax returns showed, she was going to have a massive ratings drop the next day as she, as she didn't have anything special going on.  A legitimate, honest news source would have compared her ratings not from one day to the next but from the previous Wednesday.

actually, Trump is doing quite well.   The liberal dishonest media would never give an honest view of Trump's real level of popularity.  And polls differ based on who is asked and how the questions are framed.

Instead of sinking ratings, she should be in jail, since what she did was a felony.

I think there's a legal loophole there; she didn't obtain the documents by illegal means.  It's really a gray area.  I think the law does need to find out who actually stole them and prosecute them.

I have wondered about that.   I mean, if you had good reason to believe that the documents were obtained illegally in the first place, and you release them, aren't you kind of complicit with  the person who got them illegally?   If it was illegal  to obtain them, then revealing them publicly would seem to have some legal liabilities attached to it.

Shouldn't she, as a journalist, be responsible for making sure they were legally obtained?
