"Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers (15) It is his angel.—The language expresses the common belief of the Jews, that every true Israelite had a guardian angel specially assigned to him, who, when he appeared in human form, assumed the likeness of the man whom he protected. It is obvious that the record of the casual utterance of such a belief cannot be taken as an authoritative sanction of it."

I never knew that. About 6 yrs ago I was friends with a Jewish woman who admittedly knew little to nothing about her religion. Nevertheless I used to ask her about Judaism. She told me Jews don't even believe angels are real bc there aren't any in the OT. I knew there are plenty of angels in the OT we read but she caught me so off guard with this that I couldn't think of an example. Later on I found out her family is orthodox, I don't know if that matters. But this is why I'm surprised to hear some Jews believed in guardian angels. Some of the JEWS believed in the resurrection of the dead, some beleived there was never going to be a resurrection from the dead - this I think comes up a couple times or more in the NEW TESTAMENT. About angels there were and are many man-made (or worse) doctrines and beliefs in general in all the communities on earth, except the remnant called and chosen and set apart by YHWH, and even there may be some mistaken beliefs due to growing up in such a pernicious and wicked society. Acts 12:14-1621st Century King James Version (KJ21) And when she recognized Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in and told how Peter stood before the gate. And they said unto her, “Thou art mad.” But she continued to affirm that it was even so. Then they said, “It is his angel.” But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. But he, beckoning unto them with his hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Go and tell these things unto James and to the brethren.” And he departed and went into another place. Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. ======================================================================= Demons, or the evil angels, or sons of the devil, can (and do) appear as JESUS and/or as JESUS' messenger/representative to people, or as an angel of light, or whatever YHWH permits. Thus any message or messenger must always be tested AS GOD'S WORD SAYS until known to be TRUE. No it was not Peter it was an angel.

I jujst met her not long before that. But by asking her questions about Judaism I slowly realized she knew little to nothing. I was then disappointed but I still tried to stay friends with her.
