Missiology is getting to know a person and his or her culture; in turn, the gospel can be contextualized to that person or people group, which is evangelism. The problem is that when we undertake evangelism without conducting a prior missiological study of the culture or without practicing contexualization of the gospel, we do not bear much fruit.
