John was the only one who followed Jesus to the cross, and he mentioned that he was the one whom Christ loved.  But I believed He loved all the disciples just as we love our children.  They are all different and we have a slightly different relationship with each.  Peter James and John were at the transfiguration.   But Jesus left the care of his mother to John.

I admire John, for recall his attitude in Luke 9:53-55

53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them.

John must of repented so well then blossomed so well to do what willa mentioned

Jesus Christ and John were very close friends. Jesus entrusted John with the care of His mother, gave him the vision of transfiguration, allowed John to witness His most amazing miracles and later gave him the book of Revelation. Jesus blessed John.

It may be that while Christ was on earth, He was able to experience all 3 kinds of love that the Bible mentions;  Eros, Agape & Philos.  Maybe John was the first person to become a Believer, that would issue in the Agape love for him from Jesus.  That would not mean that Jesus loved John more than others, just a different kind of love.  Probably the same kind of love that He had that held Him to the Cross for us.

Love is the underlying theme of the Gospel bearing his name.

For God so loved the world...
