A child is named on the eighth day of his birth. A name can simply be defined as a word or set of words by which a person is known or identified with. Often times destiny is sealed by one's name.

Names have different origins. Some are Hindu, Arabic, Hebrew, English, African, Asian etc. There is no child born that is not identified with a name. Sometimes, a child is named due to the circumstance surrounding his birth.

Hi oduma101,

Pleased to meet you bro. Now no matter what name we have, our only destiny is to be like Christ. Nothing greater than that. All else is just serving in one form or another depending on our giftings.

regards, Marilyn.

That's not true.  I have one destiny and that is the New Heavens and New Earth and that destiny is sealed by the Holy Spirit because I have placed my faith in Jesus.   I have no destiny that is tied to this earth.

Indeed, in the secular world, a name can cause all kind of consequences, from bullying to name calling and not only in early child education, but right up to adulthood.   I often hear preachers give the definition or meaning of names with Biblical characters.  BUT

A rose is a rose, does not matter what you call it.  It still has that same sweet smell that captivates your senses.

In reality, the author is right. No one wants to give their child a name that would affect their social status. Nowadays, even the Asians and Chinese are giving their kids western names, so communication and identification can be easier.

Good post.

Both my children were named on the day of their birth, not 8 days after.  Who waits 8 days to name their child?

I reject that claim. My name is the name here only reversed. My destiny is in God's authority even before my mother bore me or named me. Where is the scripture that supports the claim being made here?

I was named after a tv soap character. I named my daughter after a character in the Matrix movie. (you can guess which one) Her middle name from my cousin who was killed in a car accident.  I guess that is all I have to add to this post. :mgcheerful:

Oh forgot. My husband named the dog. The cat came with a name. And I named the hamster Dasy after Radar mouse from M*A*S*H

My kids were named on the first day if their birth if not before, and their destiny is decided by God, not some mystical and false, belief in names.
