Dear Eddie,

Thank you for the gift of the silver NWT Bible, it would be great if you would kindly explain one problem which I, ,a Trinitarian, have with it, namely John 8:58:

“Jesus said to them, most truly, I say unto you, Before Abraham came into existence, I have been.”  (John 8:58, NWT, 2013 ed).

The New World Translation (NWT) of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, is the only Bible which mistranslates the Greek: "ego eimi," (this is the first person singular present tense of the verb "to be"), of John 8:58, as: "I have been?" All other versions of the Bible translate it correctly as "I am," and even the New World Translation itself, translates "ego eimi," consistently and accurately as "I am," elsewhere throughout the New Testament, i.e. at John 8:24, 9:5 and 9:9; which predate and postdate this verse! Why "ego eimi," means "I am" at every occurrence bar one is a puzzle to me, especially when the Watchtower Society has no Greek or Hebrew scholars which they can name. The NWT isn't translated by educated and reliable scholars with degrees, but by amateurs who possess no genuine knowledge of Greek and Hebrew. However, this problem is greatly compounded for the Watchtower Society, when one considers the differing marginal notes of four claimed Greek tenses, which have been used to explain the mistranslation of "ego eimi," as "I am."

  • The 1950 NWT edition of the Greek Scriptures, on page 312, explains the Greek: "ego eimi," here as a perfect indefinite tense, a tense which does not exist in Greek, or even in any other language.

  • The NWT 1960 Bible on page 3108, explains this as an aorist indefinite.

  • In the 1969 (Purple) edition of the Kingdom Interlinear on page 467, this tense was now changed to the perfect tense, some nineteen years later and after millions of Bible printings which contain the earlier nonexistent tense!

  • Then in 1985, the (Blue) edition of the Kingdom Interlinear on page 451, changes this to the perfect indicative. This is the fourth claimed tense!

Eddie, I enclose scans of these books. If you are unable to get hold of these books then please do visit me, and I can show you these originals.

Yours Sincerely

Eddie's letter was extremely rude, he asked me to return the silver bible, which I had spent hours marking and I'd bought him and his associate a starbucks drink in exchange for the bible.

My reply, (edited) is as follows:

Dear Edward,

I was shocked to read your e-mail! I ask you one single question about John 8:58, not fifty questions, just one, but rather than answer my question, for which I, as an unbeliever in your faith, and I told you that several times when i met you, I said that do not attend any fellowship and am completely disillusioned with all of them, am I entitled to ask you a question about the Greek text of John 8:58. But Eddie, you then react as any member of a strange cult would do, with anger as rather than attempt to answer my question, you instead give up and run away. Please sir, might I request that you attempt to answer my perfectly honest question as to why John 8:58 reads differently in your Bible. This is an honest question. Do you see what a terrible example you are setting, as if your religion really is the truth as you stated several times, then people in the truth don't run away from a single honest question on John 8:58; but people with something to hide do run away from honest questions and hide.

I am sorry that you have been hurt and offended, but it is a fact that John 8:58 is a deliberate mistranslation, your religious leaders (starting with Fred Franz in 1950 NWT Greek Scriptures) have used three invented Greek tenses in order to explain that verse away. So if after 60 years as a Jehovah's Witness if you cannot handle that, then possibly you should consider completely giving up your cart work, as it is a fact that this discrepancy exists, and if I don't point that out then others will. It is always best to face facts rather than to get angry and to run away from facts, this is one reason why I no longer attend local churches, as I have found that the leaders in the baptist and Pentecostal churches which I had formally attended did not care a jot for truth, did not care about discrepancies in their own teachings and like you, they just became extremely angry with me when I confronted them with serious discrepancies in their own church doctrines, which were being opening denied by other leaders within their own fellowships.  To quote one of your past leaders (Judge Rutherford): "Religion is a snare and a racket."

Sir, without wishing to apply 1st John 4:1-3 to anyone in particular or to any group, as none of us (including myself) are perfect, please do notice that this passages commands me to test and to check and see if what people say about Christ truly is in harmony with the scriptures. I have not deceived you sir, I am not a JW, I told you that I am a Trinitarian as soon as I met you, neither do I attend any fellowship (I gave up in 2010), but I am obedient in testing and checking what I have been taught.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.    (1st John 4:1-3).

Yours Sincerely

Robert,

Our Kingdom Hall picked up a special pair of glasses used by that 'other group', so now we can decipher the true meaning of the Greek and so be prepared for our best and final update on John 8:58.

...Edward.

Ha ha ha, it looks like I need another pair of glasses.

      Praise the Lord, hallelujah!
Praise You, God, for your purity and perfection!  Praise You Lord, Jesus Christ, for saving me and my testimony!  Glory be to You, God, our Father who art in Heaven!  Thanks be to the Holy Spirit's comfort, teaching and guidance!  All we know, understand, experience and struggle with is for your glory, perfect plan and unquestionable will.  I shall not want or crave anything outside of Jesus Christ's way.  Let me know if so, let me understand what You want for us is best.  May I pick up and carry my own cross, denying myself for You.  I worship You as all knowing, powerful and gracious.  May I draw closer to You and keep You as top priority in my family's lives.  You are first, my family is second and I am here to serve.  May I serve you reverently, fully and completely.  May there be less of me and more of Jesus Christ instead.  Jesus, You are thee only way, light and salvation.  All I need is You.  God, You take care of the rest.  You are in control, God, making and letting everything happen.  I am in awe and wonder of your creation.  I am eternally grateful, worshipping You and your Son for thee ultimate sacrifice and act of love.  This body is your temple, use it as You will.  Bend me from my will to yours.  It is all about You, everything concerns and relates to You!  Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, in Jesus Christ's name, amen!

The end result of salvation, is, that you are accepted by God. =  Heaven is gained.
Salvation, Grace, the Blood Atonement, (same)  is the sole and singular method and entire means that God uses and provides, to accept you, and keep you as His, forever.
Some, who are very self righteous, have the misconception that God saves them, and then they keep themselves saved.  (Legalism).
Of course  all religion including Christian heretics would argue that man has some part in saving themselves..... But how can this be so?   After all, what can you possibly offer God that would compete with or equal the Shed Blood of Jesus?
If you are saved, you came to the Cross a sinner, and from the Cross Jesus Himself redeemed you.   And your part in that is what?    What is it?   To RECEIVE WHAT GOD has provided for you thru the Cross, is your part.
But what about living holy later?  Well, that is what comes later, AFTER what SAVED YOU< Saved you FIRST.
      See it?
God did it, you get it, and you dont get any credit for it, unless you have nail holes in your wrists and rose from the dead after dying for the sin of the world.
Is that you?   No.   There is only One.
So, some who are very self righteous, have the idea that after Jesus's blood ALONE has redeemed them, then their  "holy lifestyle" kicks in as THEIR 2nd part of God's salvation plan.  And of course, think......= if God didnt accept you or your lifestyle before He saved you, do you think He will accept your lifestyle later, along with the Blood of Jesus to save you and keep you saved?
Funny how people can be so religious and so self righteous and try to take some of the credit for their salvation, instead of giving God and Christ all the credit for what they did, and they did, only.
So what is it exactly that God did to save us and keep us saved?  What is another way to look at Redemption, as there are many, and i'll offer you one now....
Well, to find an answer, you have to know the problem, first..   And so, what is the only problem that an unsaved human being has, that is keeping God from accepting them and taking them into His family?
Its only one problem    = Sin.    This little word has great implication into eternity, as if this word, .. if what it means regarding each and everyone is not dealt with while you are breathing, then you will be dealing with the end result from the day you die until .............   Never ends.   John 3:36 is the  current situation facing every person who is not a believer in Christ and has NOT been born again.     And God is not Joking.  Look at the shed blood on the Cross and realize how serious God is about sin and the consequences of unforgiven sin, in eternity.   Reader, if you are not saved then ......understand this.....Your SIN, cost Jesus His sinless life, and if you do not come to the Cross, then your sin is going to cost you your eternity, and there will be no second chance after you are dead.  Christ died on the EARTH, and you take Him as your own savior on the EARTH, or not..   You do not get a redo, or a "take 2",  after you die, and realize then the TRUTH, that im telling you right now.
      Really.
So, what did God do for you, that resolves your sin issue, and mine, so that He can accept us, on HIS TERMS< and keep us,  based on HIS FINAL SOLUTION> ?
Very simple.  He , God, is merciful to our UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEREFOR..... OUR SIN ONCE FORGIVEN at the CROSS, HE WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.   For the born again, Its as if we never sinned.  And this position "in Christ" continues from the moment of our new birth, until forever., as that is the effect of eternal justification that is given as the "free gift of salvation", "the gift of Righteousness", that is created and kept by the Blood Atonement.
      Hebrews 8:12
God deals with our unrighteousness, our sin, by Jesus becoming sin on the cross and taking the judgement for it all.  Our entire lifetime of sinning, the eternal judgement due each of us for this....=  This is the "cup" that Jesus spoke about that He was about to face.  = The whipping and then the Cross and Death.
This is HOW God dealt with the unrighteousness of the entire world.  He died for it.   John 3:16   And this Death, is the mercy and grace of God giving righteousness in place of our unrighteousness.
      This is Salvation.
      This is Grace.
This is the "Gift of Righteousness", and we dont earn it, and we dont keep it, as it is given and kept by the same Holy One who provided it, for free.
      Philippians 1:6

i have found lately that a couple people have told me things they believe which i didn't think were true. one an atheist who claimed something can come from nothing, and two a bible study leader who believes the church will be taken away before the tribulation.  the atheist was  easy to refute as i asked for an example of where something come from nothing and all he could come up with was particles, but the bible study teacher was a bit harder as we were studying revelation and even though it talks about the great multitude from the trib, which she had a bit of trouble explaining as to her belief she still believed what she did.  my point is this, make sure what your belief  about God, Jesus and the bible, and life in general is based in truth and knowledge. beliefs that are not based in truth are easily refutable.  we all believe certain things, i believe in the coming of a king the reaper, because of what i have read, if someone can point out why it is not so i am willing to listen.  but it is said do not go beyond what is written and unfortunately many do or they misinterpret what is there.  none of this really matters but interpretation is the cause of much error so simply take the message as it is written.

My name is Gerlinde, and I live and work as a scriptwriter for television (and sometimes for movies) in Germany (Potsdam, near Babels berg (Film center). Before I became a Christian, I was in the LDS, in my eyes a mixed cult. I came to Jesus when I researched about transgender. A character in a German television series should be transsexual.
During my research in a meeting place for such people, I met at the door of a Christian, who invited these people to a church service. He thought I was a lesbian (I'm straight) because I came out of the meeting place.
I did not believe in God since my negative experiences with the Mormons, but I went out of curiosity.
Something touched me in the small old church in a residential building, forcing me to read the Bible. The Spirit testified to me that the Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus my Savior.
As I continued to study the Bible, I changed my life bit by bit. From the cynical Gerlinde, became a woman who can give and receive much love, thanks to the grace of Jesus.
I left the TV series team because I could not write a screenplay with a sinful character (transsexual). Now I'm working on a series in which a Jewish rabbi and a Protestant detective solve cases.
I hope when I'm done that a German television station buys my screenplays.
