This is really scary; the kid had NO heart disease and yet he went into cardiac arrest after consuming too much caffeine.  This is something we ALL need to note.

From what they said he drank, it should not have killed him unless he had things that people around him were not aware of.    No one should consume that much caffeine though.   Not known about heart problems can arise when pushed that far.

problem is that none of us really know how much caffeine we can tolerate, and as we age it gets worse.

I do know that 24 cups of green tea will send me to the ER...

Caffeine is a drug. It can cause heart arrhythmias and it is bad for the stomach. All the acid. But caffeine is the most accepted drug in the world. It is addicting.

It really IS addictive.  If I don't have my coffee I get a headache.  But I don't drink more than three cups a day.  i have a friend though that drinks two Monster energy drinks every day, in addition to a lot of soda.  I have tried talking to her about this but she doesn't believe it's harmful.

Yes, you will find if you decide to go off caffeine it would probably be quite painful. I wonder why people feel like they need so much coffee. Why all the stimulation? Are they self medicating themselves?

I think in my friend's case she has no energy and tries to get some.  But those drinks are also full of sugar and she is diabetic and quite overweight so I DO worry about her.  In my case, it's a habit I picked up when I was only ten or so.  I never let my own kids have coffee until they were grown though and not much soda either.  Soda is one of the worst things on the planet.

 Oh yes not good for diabetics.Another thing that is dangerous for diabetics is alcohol.  My parents would not let me have coffee when I was young. Some parents refuse to let their kids have soda but that is where I picked my battles. I let them have it.

I've inhaled twice that in the same time period. There had to have been something else going on.
