Well they get reelected but, if they were term limited, they just couldn't get on the ballot again.  That would solve the problem.  I don't think our founders envisioned lifetime, wannabe rock star, politicians in office for decades.  Or these same useless clods voting for laws they are not subject to; like Obamacare or, to be fair, the new Trumpcare bill.  We need new blood and new ideas in government and let the fossils toddle off to a museum where they belong.

Yes. I appreciate it when the fossils are in a museum! :24:

There's no guarantee, for sure.  But being in government too long makes people useless, IMO.  Too removed from real life.

I would not describe Jim Inholf as useless. And the rest of you dont have the right to say he cant represent me in Washington.  Nancy Pelosi isnt the problem, the people where shes from is the problem.

The majority that vote fossils in are the problem no matter what state one is in. The majority has the vote no matter what ones opinion is. Thats how it works folks!

But a term limit would certainly help imho. Fresh perspectives are good and being a hungry politician helps alot too. Hungry people tend to do a good job so they can eat. :P

A term limit may  also curb the # of politicians that go in broke and come out wealthy. idk

Nancy Pelosi is a real problem!! I foresee a comfy rocking chair calling her name...............lol

If she quits being the democrat leader, it doesn't mean she quits being a congresswoman.  But then she would just be one of 435, and she couldn't do any damage nationally.

If she quits congress altogether, though, you're right.  The people of San Francisco would just elect someone just as bad.  Or worse.

Blessings,

-Ed

It is simply amazing how people who claim to be conservative want the government to have so much control over their lives.

Who said anything about Jim Inholf? Or that he can't represent you?  What?  I've never even heard of him.

Which is the problem with arbitrary term limits, you are telling someone like OO that they cannot vote for a certain person after x amount of terms.

We already have a system in place for term limits, if the voters are too lazy to use it, it is not the place of the government to save them from themselves

If the founders didn't intend on wannabe rock star politicians in office for decades, they could've easily written a prohibition of such into the constitution. George Washington set a standard when he retired from the presidency after two terms, a standard that was basically abided by all who sought that office for the next 150 years. But as with any such standard, it eventually will fall to ambition, as it did with roosevelt. I doubt the founders themselves were entirely ignorant to the fact that someone may simply just camp out in a senate seat or even the presidency and generally trusted the electorate to deal with that at the ballot box. Of the many things that it would've been nearly impossible for them to foresee from their position in the 18th century that wasn't dealt with constitutionally, socialism/communism, abortion, even modern military capabilities (the likes of which would've probably blown the mind of anyone whose name is on the declaration of independence), I don't think this is one of them.
