https://www.rt.com/viral/393540-rare-total-solar-eclipse/

The US is set to experience its first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in almost a century on August 21 – giving millions of Americans the chance to observe the rare celestial event

So, who has plans to watch this live and in person?  I could not leave my backyard and be in the range between the total eclipse and the .9 magnitude!    A bunch of us have already taken the day off work and have a eclipse party planned.

If I watch it on TV, there's no chance of me hurting my eyes.  I watched a partial eclipse years ago wearing an arc welder's face mask.

The eclipse is happening right where I live.  There is planned to be over 30k people coming to our little community.  Not counting the surrounding areas and the people that will be showing up unannounced.

They have been putting in the newspapers to stock up on standard household items as they are afraid the stores will be emptied.

A friend of mine has his house on air bnb.  During 3 days of the eclipse stuff his house has been rented for $1000 per night.

That is a good plan if you have somewhere to go.

I would like to take pictures of the total.    We will see as it gets closer.   I'd like to go up to Yellowstone for a couple of weeks during that time and drift south to catch the center of the total eclipse...    depends on how the wife feels and of course the weather.

I have a question (Solar Eclipse, Moon Shadow)...

Solar Eclipse Moon Shadow.PNG

How can the Moon, with a diameter of nearly 2,200 Miles, cast a shadow 35 TIMES SMALLER Than Itself (!!) ...roughly 50-60 Miles in diameter... from 237,000 Miles away, por favor??

ps.  Pay no attention to the Cartoon Photo (1st Pic) as a Whole smh, AND (LOL)... The "CLONED" Clouds at ~7 and 8 o'clock :o

Shouldn't it look something like this...

So the shadow shouldn't look like The University of Montana Demonstration staring you right in the face, eh?
