Satan and the other fallen angels (now called demons) can and do influence and possess NON-BELIEVERS. Many people miss the fact that Judas was not under his own volition when he betrayed Jesus. The Bible says that Satan entered Judas and took control of him and that is when Judas betrayed Jesus. After Satan exited Judas, then Judas felt remorse and shame for what he had done. Many times in human history Satan and/or a demon can possess or influence a non-believer into committing acts of murder.

The rest of your post is pretty much right on. Satan or those who do his will do have the power to take physical life, but they can't permanently kill anyone spiritually. That is the death that Jesus has the Keys for and Satan can't hurt us spiritually in any way. Revelation 13 gives a pretty good idea of how much Satan and the Beasts have over physical life.
