For many people from my community on July 1st we cast our minds back to our forefathers who faught at the Battle of the Somme in World War 1 the first day of which was on July 1st 1916, or the British Army.as part of the 36th Ulster Division. It is a very poignant day of the year for us. It is regarded as the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army, but the Ulstermen fought with extreme courage and was the only British division to achieve its objectives on the first day.
