Sin

No one has a beef about desiring purity through confession of sins. It is the claim that we can walk sinless through this life that is troublesome.

Amen! We saints do sin even with a fleeting thought  that we must repent of and take captive to the obedience of Christ!

1John 1:7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.…

I see :)  This personally: It seems the closer I draw to The Word of God under the tutelage of The Spirit the more I see weakness and failure to be like Jesus in myself~ in the minutia of living it gets very pointed... I believe this to be the mark Paul spoke of while here in unredeemed flesh... always striving toward but never quite arriving...

Exactly! We are being continually sanctified but will never be holy as God is until we are glorified. We buffet this flesh daily.

Blessings :)

Many of those who call themselves Christians believe that we will always sin. They misuse Romans 3:23 and Romans 7. How do you correct this thinking without being seen as a heretic, being that it's a common belief?

Mostly pray cause the problem is the thinking.

Fleeting thoughts are not sin if you entertain it then it's sin.

this is how 1 John 1:7-10 looks like in context, thought conversation.

p1: "Come to Jesus He will cleanse you from ALL sin"(v7)

p2: "I have no sin to be cleansed of"

p1:"you are a liar and the truth is not in you"(v8)

p1:"now if you confess that you have sin to be cleansed of, He will forgive you and cleanse you from sin" (v9)

p2:"ok I confess"

p1:"[good] now if you say you have not sinned you are a liar" (v10)

Just now, Yowm said:

It supports the fact that we won't walk sinless, that is why we have an Advocate, and the Blood that washes continually our sin.

Read 1 John 2:1, he says we have an advocate if(not when, but if we sin), but he wrote those things that we sin not or do not sin. You can be free from sin here on earth.

Lusting is in the mind. It is SIN.

Yes it is. It's an action, but if some silly thought just comes to your mind and you ignore it then it is not sin.

It means a life of habitual sin...not that we won't have lapses or failures which is sin.

No, he's saying he writes that so we do not sin. Where does he say  habitual. If we keep sinning we have an advocate? Does that make sense?

Show me one Christian who has never sinned. To believe so is legalism and works salvation.

I never said never. We come into the kingdom as Children and we receive chastisement. So we can partake in His holiness. Read Hebrews 12:5-12

Sin is any thought, word or action that is contrary to the character or law of God. Every human being sins. We have to take Romans 3:23 literally and not give the verse our own meaning.
