In reference to Luke CH 4 when Satan tempted Jesus, was it possible for him to give in to that temptation and sin? To clarify, could(not would) Jesus go against his divine nature?

Have an idea of the answer but would love to hear your responses and scripture to support it. Thanks

It all depends on how you are defining " possible". Jesus had the brains and the ability to sin. If He didn't He would not have been human. But Jesus Christ was perfect unlike us. He was not acting out in evil. You can't sin if there is no desire. Jesus Christ had no desire to sin.

No. It wasnt possible! Jesus was God in the flesh. Remember when he said" before Abraham; I AM.  If it possible for Jesus to sin he would not have been the perfect sacrificial lamb that was slain for our sins.

Jesus was also tempted in the Garden of Gethsemane to not go to the cross.  He even sweat drops of blood as he anguished and asked God the Father if there were any other way so that he didn't have to go to the cross.  He finally resigned himself the the Father's will.  But had He not had a choice there would have been no struggle.  Yes He had free will to disobey, but He did obey and took our sins upon himself when He went to the cross fulfilling all the law and the prophets.  Hebrews 12 reminds us of His agonizing decision.

Heb 12:4 ESV  In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

My point warrior is that when looking at the word "possible" it was for Him to sin. But He did not because He is God. He was tempted.

I agree with you missmuffet it was possible. Im wondering about when Jesus was ready to die he took on all the sins of the world unto himself and God separated himself from Jesus at that time hence Jesus said why have you forsaken me. Because God could not be in presence of sin.  I may not had said this right hopefully you catch my drift.

You said it well. How painful for Jesus to have been separated from His Father.
