I'm looking for a fairly concise book on the history of the church. Recommendations?

Halley's Bible Handbook.  At the end of the book has a really good concise summary of the last 2000 years of the church.

For early church history -- Eusebius has some really interesting tidbits that are fascinating.  I wrote a devotional concerning the Apostle John that I found in his writings.

I suggest reading Foxes Book of Martyrs.  There's another book like an encyclopedia called Martyrs Mirror.

The best concise history is "Church History in Plain Lanaguage 4th Edition", by Bruce Shelley.

A nice second tier contender is "Christian History Made Easy," by Timothy Paul Jones.

Stay Away from anything written by Diamand McCulloch, his book The History of the Church: The First Three Thousand Years is full of unbelief; it really should be called an Athiest's Apologetics Book.
