Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. This is a very interesting passage because it shows a sort of mystery of a mystery. For example, the man is said to hide the treasure in a field that is not his own. So honestly, the man should have told the owner of the immense treasure in his field -- however, he hids the treasure, and doesn't tell the owner, but instead sells all that he has to buy the field -- which stores this incredible treasure! Very interesting when you think about it! So he sells all that he has ... to buy this field. This immense treasure ... he kept hidden, until he had the opportunity to really seize the treasure, when he purchased the field. So Yeshua tells of the message of the Kingdom, and salvation provided through Himself, is like a treasure of a wealth that is priceless. The gospel within the Scriptures, need to be diligently gone over, searched, thoroughly investigated, until the person is fully convinced of the saving power of the gospel. The gospel is kept secret to himself, ponders it deeply and considers the cost of following the gospel -- what it truly entails. The person considers what it truly means to live a lifestyle of repentance -- then grasping hold of its value -- What does it profit a man if he gains the entire world and lose his own soul? He then sells all that he has -- literally its as if he's "losing his life for His sake" finds true joy and happiness and buys gold tried in the fire. He has truly grasped the VALUE of the TREASURE!
