The Bible says a that a person who doesn't work doesn't eat.  The best answer is to offer people work such as yard work.  Never give cash.

This comparison sounds defensive. Coffee should not be in this category. There is no comparison equating it with the other two. The addiction to cigarettes or alcohol is deadly & is an expensive addiction. Breathing second hand smoke is physically harmful to others.

It is not defensive it is fact. Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine are all drugs. If a person things they are not then they are in denial. You must drink coffee :)

Yeah we need to get all those emaciated coffee addicts off the street ...their just killing themselves, ruining the lives of their families and adding to the cost of our health insurance with all that expensive Rehab,  COPD & the cost of Cancer treatments, almost forgot to mention the turning to prostitution to support their habit.

Your sarcasm is not attractive Davida. It all depends on how sarcasm is posted. In your case it is biting.

No sense of humor I guess.

But you insist that caffeine , alcohol and tobacco is all the same because they are all "drugs".

That is true. They are all drugs with different affects. But all with the possibility of addiction.

If we're talking about supporting addictions, should sugar be included here as well?

Are you calling me unattractive? :emot-crying:

I am saying that your choice of words is not attractive. I suggest that you immediately abstain from all caffeine and see how you do. That would include coffee, tea, chocolate and all soda pop that includes caffeine.

Yes, from some of the research I have read sugar can be addictive but I do not know where is stands among caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.

I think I have shown how they are not in the same category and they are not at all the same thing.

Caffeine has been linked with breast cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Addiction is not only about chemical reaction derived from a substance one takes.  I have seen addiction in many forms.  People become addicted to chemical reactions derived from an action one does which releases endorphins in the brain.  They continue to push the envelope so more endorphins are released until they have gone too far.  Any addiction, followed to the extreme, will have the same result.

Is this thread about addiction or about cigarettes?

It is about addictions but primarily about addictions to drugs such as caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. But you are right there are addictions to other things such as cell phones?
