 I believe the two witnesses to be Enoch and St. John of the Apocalypse . When the seven thunders speak- St John is told not to write Rev. 10: 8-11 . He is told to eat the scroll. It is sweet like honey in his mouth but bitter to his stomach. Because the word of God is sweet, but the persecution and martyrdom it brings is bitter and hard to digest. I believe the other witness to be Enoch because like John Enoch too- saw the end days and the mysteries of heaven. To witness means: to give account as to what you witnessed - already seen.

They saw the future in it's entirety. Many have said Elijah is one- but Christ already revealed that he came- Mathew 17: 10- 13 And the disciples asked Him, "Then why do the scribes say Elijah must come?" He replied, Elijah does come, and he is to restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist. The witnesses are of the mind set of the Church of Smyrna. The letters to the churches today speak to out mind sets. Smyrna means  "Anointing Oil - Myrrh " They are His anointed ones. Those of the mind frame of Philadelphia and Smyrna have no faults at the time of the trumpets. However,  those of the mind frame of Smyrna are martyred. Those of the mind set of Philadelphia will be persecuted but not martyred. They will be raptured at the end of the

tribulation after those who are beheaded rise first-Rev 20. tells their placement as to resurrection.  They are of the first resurrection.

The first two trumpets are the beginning of super natural disasters. At the beginning of the tribulation, God first strikes the earth: Revelation 7:2-3.

Here's a big reason why God strikes the earth first with natural disasters, particularly with a supervolcano early in the tribulation. Santorini Biblical Connection

Geologists are of the opinion that the eruption of the Santorini volcano is the basis of the twelve plagues depicted in the Exodus. Post eruption, a vast neighborhood might have endured sufferings and tribulations like deluge, drought and firestorm etc. Not even cities located on higher platforms could escape the wrath of the devastating earthquakes. Molten magma ash in all likelihood would have completely blackened the atmosphere.

Scientists believe that most of the twelve plagues occurred as a consequence of the volcanic activity. The mention of darkness in the Bible may be without doubt ascribed to the molten ash and pumice on the surface. Even the stormy winds were blowing to the southeasterly direction where Egypt was located.

Furthermore, according to renowned archaeologist Charles Pellegrino, high velocity dust storms were supposed to have rained down in Egypt from the dust clouds, thereby turning days into nights.The Exodus story also mentions about plague and devastating fire upon Egypt. The plagues occurred due to the volcanic eruption and attracted hordes of locusts and there were evidence of erratic animal activity due largely to the alteration of air pressure and weather conditions.

During the first half of the tribulation, the two witnesses will be performing great signs and miracles striking the earth with plagues, particularly on Israel. The volcanic eruption of the second trumpet is what will cause the plagues to happen. The eruption cannot happen too close to Israel otherwise Israel will be destroy. Nor can it be located too far away that the plagues will not effect the area.

The most dangerous volcano in the Mediterranean today, on land or submerged is located 90 miles south of Naples, Italy. A supervolcano even more powerful than Campi Flegrei that just became active and has never erupted before. Meaning that all the energy it's stored in it's history will all be unleash in one massive eruption.

It's more likely the volcano John saw is the Marsili volcano underwater since he described the great mountain appearing out of the sea. Since Campi Flegrei is located next to a bay filled with boats, if it erupts, all the boats would immediately be destroyed, not just a third. It makes more sense the volcano is Marisili since it's 90 miles south of the bay. And an underwater volcano is what causes the water blood red.

Both volcanoes are the most powerful supervolcanoe closest to Jerusalem. Just far enough to bring plagues but not too close to destroy the city.

I really don't think it's a coincidence two supervolcanoes became active capable of erupting at any time after being dormant for so long. The tribulation is around the corner. I think the two possibilities are Enoch and Elijah. They were taken up to heaven without experiencing death. That would qualify them to experience death and resurrection.

Rev.10:10-11 is clear. He must prophesy again- about many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.

Do you know what happened to St John? John's remains were not found. It is speculated that John did not die. Jesus' peculiar remarks concerning St John when Peter asked Him how John would die, Jesus answered " If I will that he tarry till I come what is that to thee." (John 21: 22). I believe John did not die.

Why is that a necessity, that they experience death?  What about the believers that are alive and remain until the last trump of God?  They won't have previously experienced death.  Why can't Elijah and Enoch just be changed like that as well?

I do not go by speculation. The Bible does not tell us how John died but it does not tell us that he was raptured and did not die. It is not a safe Christian practice to give the words of God our own views.

Isn't that what we are all doing here. Giving opinions and perspective on scripture? I do not play it safe with people. God is my Judge. It sounds to me missmuffet you do not like scripture. Rev10: 10-11 is quite clear. Take it up with Christ. For life does begin once Jesus becomes the reason you live it. I suggest you start living. REV10:10-11 (KJV).

That is what makes the most sense to me. But no one knows for sure. Does the Bible identify who they were? It is not an issue that Christians should divide over.

That is why you are not the Lord. If you do not like the way he does things the problem is not Him it is you. No one is dividing we are all seeking and learning. But as I said Rev.10:10-11 (KJV) is quite clear.
