Rembrandt was one of the masters of Realism. His style was to have a person sit or stand in dark room and light a candle, this produced his signature painting style.

As one who has done paintings including a few portraits,  portraits are always the hardest for most, in order to capture a likeness of the person.   I think artists that do only portraits and figures are truly given a gift from God.

I agree. Portraits are hard because they are like portals into the person depicted in the paint. Sometimes a painting is more realistic than s photo snapped by a photographer.
