For those who aren't Lutheran, this celebration is about the protest of Indulgences (documents that people paid for to gain salvation and forgiveness/absolution of sins), and it is celebration of Gospel being unleashed, the Holy Bible being printed in German and subsequently the English New Testament by William Tyndale. While we may not agree with everything Martin Luther did, but he was the man that the LORD Jesus used to challenge the status quo and spur a Reformation that has lead to where we are today. With the ecumenism going on with Rome as Christians are supposedly ‘returning home’ to Mother Church, this is the marker that has been removed. Sure Rome believes also we are saved by faith but She cringes at the word ‘alone’. The fact is though, true faith in Jesus is faith that is not alone...it has attached itself to Jesus Christ the LORD of all creation. He alone is the sole object of true faith. Indeed, "not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith." (Philippians 3:9). Faith is also the word (trust) and believe (John 6:40, John 3:16); which is total belief and faith; Faith Alone. I am concerned as you are that Roman Church and Protestants are getting close through meetings with Pope, and all this ecumenism between the Roman, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant Churches is recipe for compromising the Truth of the Gospel that we are saved through faith and belief in Jesus Alone (Solus Christus) (1 John 4:15, John 6:40, John 3:16-18, Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6, John 10:30, John 17:19-20, Hebrews 1:1-14).
