And when they had preached the gospel to that city and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Acts 14:21-23

The best things in life are the results of being wounded. Wheat must be crushed before becoming bread, and incense must be burned by fire before its fragrance is set free. The earth must be broken with a sharp plow before being ready to receive the seed. And it is a broken heart that pleases God. Yes, the sweetest joys of life are the fruits of sorrow. Human nature seems to need suffering to make it fit to be a blessing to the world.

If you aspire to be a person of consolation...then you must be prepared to pay the price for a costly education-for like Christ, you must suffer.

Frederic William Robertson. "Streams in the desert"

[for me anyway] the best things in life are when we deny our own will, and repent and own our sins, and submit to and rely upon the Word of God, and learn not to think above that which is written, that we may avoid exaggeration and over-estimation: and such can only be accomplished by obedience, which we learn by the things which we suffer; then may we bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

(Hebrews 5:8)

(2 Corinthians 10:5)

I agree whole heartily with the statement, very refreshing. I think seeing that vision ahead is a great reminder to me and it takes me back to when I was a child and gave my life to God to become a Christian. He truly, has been in my life even with making some wrong choices along the way and things unraveling with lifes events, bumpy roads. I am 51 yrs old now..lol. I always go to God for everything and thank Him for everything, Always looking at it with ..what IS God trying to tell me. I need His direction in everything. Sometimes, I feel "my weaknesses" or even "brokeness" and that "light" is always, Always trying to shine thru me. For I know He loves me. At times the weight of the world can cause me to not be as comforting to others as I should be, those are the times I seek Him cause my spirit is hurting and not understanding why and it's because I'm getting too far away from God. Trying to do things all on my own. And God is right near me. I could go on and on in this thread but anyways not to steer off the subject but THIS thread really touched me. I found it a blessing to read and very thought provoking.

God is so good, all the time and we don't always realize that He has our best interest in mind at all times , He is faithful !

Perhaps it is our pride and our self life that needs to be crushed and broken so that Jesus may be seen in us.

Good thread. I enjoyed reading the OP and everyone's comments.

It brought this scripture to mind for me:

Romans 8:18-23King James Version (KJV)

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Absolutely.
Or, when things are going well for us, we don't think to repent.
We don't feel the need to.

This is my personal testimony.

My wife left me, took our child.
And she got the house, which my life savings went into.
I was heart broken, and my life dream was shattered.

At first I thought, Beauty, I'm free. I can live without her.
But over the next few years I became extremely bitter and misogynist.
I convinced myself I was too advanced in age, and lost my chance to have a family and home.
I became completely taken over with depression, and envy, anger,
and frustration,
but, I never gave in to the temptation to do anything nasty.
I was in hell, and I knew it.

So I decided to take another look at Jesus.
It took me a while, but I eventually got to Deuteronomy 28, and there, saw my life writ out before me.
That's when I began to groan.
And not just for my tribulation, because I knew, my troubles were nothing compared to many others.
So I prayed for all those refugees running from bombing and snipers.
And for all those people who lost homes and loved ones in disasters.
And for all the people who are sick and starving and in poverty.
Even for all the well off people, each in their own hell through relationship or financial or health problems.

So much suffering and pain.
The world is full of tribulation, and it seems that none can escape it.
Why? God!? I prayed.

Deuteronomy 28 also tells us why, of course, but it isn't easy to see God's answer at first.
From the bottom you cannot tell what from the top looks like.
But, by the simple act of turning to Jesus for help,
and sacrificing some time and effort to honestly look into His word,
turned my whole life around for me.

I still don't have property or a wife,
but I feel I have found something so much greater.
(I found out how to come out of the great tribulation. :))

And I prayed Jesus to help me forgive my ex wife,
and immediately my ex and I were, and still are today years later, on friendly talking terms.
Paul
