Are there any good books or studies out there that would be helpful to get to know one another better?

If that is the case perhaps you could pray regarding your relationship. Ask God if that is what He wants for the two of you. Just be friends for awhile and see where it leads. Only a fool is not on their best behavior on a date. They try to make everything perfect for the purposes of making a good first impression. Now, I am all for making things perfect in a known situation (all the flaws etc.). But to try to trick-start something (like putting wood shavings in an old transmission to sell a car... not so much! False advertising is what MOST dating is all about. Long term courtship eventually brings out all the flaws for the "buyer" to observe. Temper, focus, exclusivity, hygiene, keep a job, take care of a home, what is their relationship with their parents... etc. What is at stake is a LIFE TIME commitment.
