Hi fellow Christians,

Me and my father are discussing the sentence as stated in Leviticus 19:28.
This sentence is about getting a tattoo, below as stated in the NIV.

Quote

28 “‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.

But we are Christians and not Jews.
Jesus has created, with us Christians, a new covenant when he died.

So are the rules, especially the Lev. 19:28 rule, also applicable to Christians??
Can you fellow Christians shine some light on this question?

With love and blessings,

Rik // The Netherlands

Here's one link to look for answers ,so many people have all different opinions and I believe you do have to make your own opinion what you feel is the right one for you, some people think it's ok for a Christian to have tattoos and others think it's sin, maybe you can start with reading this until we find the other threads?

The tattoos referred to in Leviticus 19:28 were part of a pagan mourning ritual.

They don't necessarily correspond to modern tattooing, which is done for many different reasons - some may be acceptable for Christians, others not.

I once had to have some very discreet tattoo marks on my body in connection with radiotherapy - but I don't think the ban on tattoos applies to something like that!

As Yeshua told all the disciples,  He is even stricter now than before with the Israelites,

and He doesn't say something different to different gentiles, no.

Though I leave this subject between the individual and God, I personally take the following into consideration when I think of this for myself.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

The question I have to ask is, "Does God have a tattoo?"
