Forsake not the Levite

Recommended Posts

I am having the same trouble as Watchman. Can't reply on my thread.
So my apologies for responding in a new thread.

I wanted to thank those that responded,
and go a bit deeper, because my question still isn't answered.

Yown said
"We no longer have an  association with the Levite."
This was good, thank you, Yown, because it helped me to understand what "no part or inheritance with" means
in a more modern everyday language term.

But then you followed with "i.e. the Levitical system having a better High Priest after the order Of Melchizedek."
Some have said this to me already, and this only brings several questions to my mind.
But the main question, relating to verses in question, which are saying,
Israel (God's children) already had no association with the Levite within back in Moses' day.
So there was hardly a need for God's children to forsake their association.
In fact, isn't God warning them (us) not to disassociate our self from the Levite within?

~~`

Simplejeff offered,
"Have to go by all Scripture, and only by Scripture for this,  since man's ways are wrong, and are not God's Ways."

Thank you, Jeff. I only agree.
But the scripture seems plain to me.
It's what people say that makes me question it.
Am I interpreting it wrong?
Is God saying to never forsake the Levite, or not?

Then you offered Number 25:13
"

And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.’”

"
Thank you.
There are numerous indications in the scripture that God's covenant is with Levi.

And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you,
that My covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi 2:4

~~`
Willa offered up
"The Levites were the priests in Israel."
Israel, to my knowledge, or in my Bible, is God's people.
That would include the Christians, would it not?

"They were not among the sons of Joseph whom God renamed Israel, so they had no land given to them as an inheritance in the Promised Land."
I think you mean Jacob.
It was Jacob who was renamed Israel. Joseph was one of Jacob's sons.
You know, Jesus also promised us the kingdom, if we repent.

"Tithes were given to them and to the temple to feed them and maintain the tabernacle and temple."
Do you know if there is a Levite withing the gates of Worthy?
I would go to offer my tithes, if this is what the Lord commands.

"This was the Hebrew faith and doesn't refer to Christianity. "
I speak only of things found in the Christian's holy Bible.

"It is still a principal that we should share of our increase and not neglect our pastors.  They have bills to pay, too."
I am aware of this.
But I have no association with them.

On the one hand they want the tithes,
on the other hand they say they are not the Levites.

~~`
Do you know why our Lord says to never forsake the Levite within?
Paul

What I was saying is that the Levitical Priesthood was  superseded by a better Priesthood. Since Jesus became our High Priest there are no Levites within the Church.

Listen to Him , Abide in His Word, Let His Word Abide in you.  Trust and Rely on Yahweh by Grace in Jesus Perfect Faithfulness to fulfill all of His Promises..

Don't make more , and don't make less of His Word than He Says. Don't add to His Word, and don't take away from His Word.

That's right...

Heb 7:11-21

(11)  Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), why is there yet a need for another priest to rise, according to the order of Melchizedek, and not to be called according to the order of Aaron?

(12)  For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there occurs a change of law also.

(13)  For He concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.

(14)  For it is evident that our Lord has risen out of Judah, regarding which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

(15)  And it is yet even more clearer, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest

(16)  who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.

(17)  For He testifies: "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

(18)  For on the one hand an annulment comes about of the preceding commandment on account of its weakness and uselessness.

(19)  For the law made nothing perfect; but there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

(20)  And inasmuch as it was not without oath taking,

(21)  for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him that said to Him: "The LORD has sworn and will not relent, 'You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek' ",

As Yowm is saying, we no longer use or interact with Levites because Jesus is our High Priest. Whereas the Levitical priests were the go-betweens for Israel and God, performing sacrifices and so forth, Jesus, due to His sinless life and final sacrifice on the cross, is now our High Priest. The curtain was ripped and we can go directly to the Father through Jesus (the reason we end prayer with "in Jesus' name I pray" or something similar). To rely on actual Levitical priests would be go back to the old covenant that was merely a picture for us to show us how hopeless we were without Jesus' saving grace and mercy. It's the same reason we no longer sacrifice animals, circumcise our males (on requirement, at least), observe Jewish feasts and holidays, etc.

Back to Scripture,  ALL SCRIPTURE,  and ONLY SCRIPTURE in this.

Not what man is saying.

ALL SCRIPTURE is GOOD AND TRUE AND PROFITABLE for learning and meant by YAHWEH for ekklesia to learn as HE IS PLEASED to REVEAL

and SCRIPTURE is JUDGE for all those who reject JESUS or who oppose YAHWEH.

Do not leave off the Levites unless YAHWEH , contrary to HIS OWN WORD, says to  (paradox!?) ....

Do not forget to bless all who Yahweh says to bless,

no matter if HE ADDS OTHERS LATER in HIS WORD, not adding to His Word, but more fully revealing HIS PLAN -

HIS PLAN for Levites as well as EVERY LIVING STONE KNIT TOGETHER BY HIM,  every joint and signew and ligament DOING AS HE CREATED IT TO DO.

Notice especially YAHWEH BLESSES WHO YAHWEH BLESSES as HE is PLEASED TO DO,

and we should BLESS EVERYONE who YAHWEH BLESSES as HE  SAYS to do.

p.s. the change in priesthood DID NOT CHANGE HIS PROMISE, no, NOT ONE OF HIS PROMISES was changed nor dropped.

But it did change the Priesthood and therefore a whole new approach from law and ceremony to a Living Way into His Presence.

True, but it can be true and profitable for learning without us necessarily being required to follow the system. If nothing else, it's profitable for us to learn about the old system, so we can compare it to Jesus' completed work and see the difference He made. You could even take it further and perhaps say it's a good example that churches should take care of their pastors financially, while the pastors should not concern themselves with acquiring great wealth, instead looking to serve God.

It would be wrong, IMO, to assume that because it's in the Bible that it's something we definitely have to follow without any other consideration of context, etc.

Yahweh's ways are past finding out sometimes. Perhaps it is easier to look at a beautiful butterfly, and beside it a chrysalis, and beside that a caterpillar.

If no one had ever told you the connection, would you be able to fathom it? I doubt it very much.

So it is with much that the Lord God reveals to us. The chrysalis, the caterpillar, the beauty of His Glory in a butterfly. can you say without a shadow of a doubt where one ends and the other begins? Without the butterfly there would be no caterpillar.

I Am The Lord. There is no other.

It is no longer the Levitical priesthood, but the order of Melchizedek (Christ).
