What Does Christmas Teach Us About God?

Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1-18; Luke 2:1-24.

Memory Verse: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14.

Aim: To know and understand God better by what He reveals about Himself in the birth of Jesus Christ.

Introduction: Christmas is about God the Son being born as a man, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christmas teaches a great deal about God. This is seen in God’s dealings with people at Christ’s birth. What Does Christmas Teach Us About God?

1. Mary and some Christians are highly favoured by God. Luke 1:28.

2. God has a Son Who would be born as a man at His first coming and would rule on David’s throne at His second coming. Luke 1:32,33.

3. God seeks our permission to do His will in our life. “be it unto me according to thy word.” Luke 1:38.

4. God controls ungodly emporers decrees to fulfil His prophecies and His purposes.
“there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.” Luke 2:1.

5. God sets an example of humility by Christ being born in a manger because there was no room in the inn. God wants us to be humble and help those who are less fortunate and suffering. Luke 2:7.

6. God revealed Christ’s birth first to shepherds. Luke 2:8,9. God is interested in shepherds because it shows his concern to shepherd, encourage and help his people. We are the sheep of his pasture. Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd.

7. God wants all people to “fear not” and to have “great joy” at Christ’s birth. Luke 2:10.

8. Jesus Christ is both God (Lord) and Saviour. Luke 2:11.

9. God wants “peace on earth and good will toward men.” Luke 2:14.

10. God wants us to “make known abroad” the gospel of Christ. Luke 2:17.

11. God wants us to dedicate our children to God, as Jesus was. Luke 2:22.

12. The Holy Spirit reveals things to believers who are in close fellowship with God. Luke 2:26.

13. God wants all nations to be saved and receive the light of Christ. Luke 2:31,32.

14. God reveals the thoughts of people’s hearts by their response to Jesus Christ. Luke 2:35.
Our response to Christ shows if we believe the Bible, if we honestly seek the truth, if we are willing to admit our sins to God, if we are humble or proud, if we value and want to follow Christ, and many more.

15. God wants us to be strong in spirit, to be filled with wisdom, & to have God’s grace on us. Luke 2:40

16. God reveals truth about Himself to people of other nations, such as the wise men who travelled a great distance to see Jesus. These are a rebuke to all who have easy access to the gospel of Christ. Matt. 2:1-3. 17. The wise men worshipping Jesus proves that Jesus is God. Matthew 2:11. 18. The wise men giving gifts to Jesus proves that we should give sacrificially to the cause of Christ. 2:11. 19. God warns people about future dangers, as he did to the wise men and Joseph in a dream. Matthew 2:12,13.

Conclusion: Let us seek to know, love and serve God better because of what God reveals of Himself at Christ’s birth.

Christ-Mass teaches little about God I suppose, though the manifestation of God in the flesh is a rather awesome thing to learn about, if it is not lost among the tradition of opulent Christ-Mass rites rituals and indebtedness of today.  Christ-Mass nah, Passover - Easter yes, much more an awesome lesson, perhaps one that should be taught as part of Hanukkah - Christmas calendar season  and feast. Just a thought.

I'm not quite ready for all the Lord's birthday stuff yet. Haven't even planned for  Thanksgiving to God day yet.

There is much, much that we can learn through the whole story of Christ's birth and the events surrounding it.....for me, I marvel at the utter loveliness of the humility He demonstrated in leaving His majestic heavenly glory to live among and become as one of us living on this ball of dirt amongst wicked and unclean people.....to give up His rule and become as a little child, utterly helpless and dependent on the Father, the King of kings becoming a servant of servants, and tasting of life and death in a weak, vile and mortal body, persecuted and hounded by the devil even from before He was born, so that we might be saved.  Meek but strong, persecuted but victorious......in all these things He set us an example to follow in His footsteps and to give birth to His lovely nature in our lives.  When I see what I'm to measure up to, I tell you it makes me feel helpless and all the more thankful for His indescribable gift.

No.  What God Reveals, the TRUTH,  is not "at Christ's birth"Christmas celebration as done by all society/ most churches practices.

What God Reveals is ALL BY HIS WORD AND TRUTH,  revealed BY HIS SPIRIT, not in line with mankinds practices.

People have learned more false and misleading things from the practice of Christmas,  which none of the Apostles or disciples practi ed, and not one of them taught. (it is not taught anywhere in Scripture nor by Yahweh;  ) ......

Actually,  God does whatever He Pleases. He does His Will to the Righteous, and to the wicked, both.

No permission needed.  See the next line: (no permission from the ungodly needed;  nor from the Godly , btw)

He calls and chooses and sets apart ekklesia (the true unseen body of Christ on earth) to OBEY HIM, no matter what,  like the faithful Apostles did PROCLAIMING CHRIST CRUCIFIED, THE GOSPEL,  everywhere they lived, everywhere they went, by their words and by their lives,   SERVING THE SUFFERING, THE POOR, as needed AND ALSO

including at the gathering at ATHENS.    (rich pagans,  not many "less fortunate and suffering" apparent there)

Yes,  but Christmas actually denies this.  See many years and many many posts / threads showing why Christmas was chosen as a holiday,  not related at all to His Birth nor to Scripture.   Today Even More mass (sick) marketing than every before.

That is every day,  "they were continually full of peace, joy and righteousness" ,  every day,  continually, FOR EKKLESIA.

Jesus prayed for JOY for the disciples ,  "not for all people do I (Jesus) PRAY, but for these disciples"

i.e. not for all people.  Never in history so far,  except for 2 possible short periods in time.

Who believes the BIBLE ?   A few.  Not many.  (no one has ever found "Christmas" celebration in the BIBLE as it is practiced in the world today by most all churches and whoever.  )

It is a point of great controversy between all those who believe and who want to believe the BIBLE,  and those who do not believe and who may not want to believe the BIBLE.

Well,  the wise men learned and believed the TRUTH and honored JESUS ,  this is TRUE SCRIPTURE and REALITY in YAHWEH.

These are a rebuke to all who have easy access to the Gospel of Christ and all the history and all the exposure of what is the TRUTH, and what is not, and how so many believe what is NOT TRUTH anyway.

For some reason it quoted some of KiwiChristian's comments as though I wrote them......might be some sort of computer glitch.

That God loves us so much He sent His only Son to be born on this earth. To die on the cross for our salvation.
