Double minded ...

Question

I am a divided person.  Long story short, I fear hell and love God.  Fear is a sin.  Trust me I'm double minded.  I know one of the keys is to love God with ALL you are, you can't serve two masters.  I know perfect love is a cure.  But the fear keeps drawing me in.  Im stuck in a war like Paul in Romans 7.  Btw this is NOT and sort of "good" fear, it straight up paralyzed me.  Honestly I can't take this anymore, the division in my soul is hell itself.  In crying out for a miracle, for a KNOWING of God.... KNOWING... not this here and there, divided whatever.  I need a KNOWING!  HELP?

Hi Tyler,

Pleased to meet you and hear your heartfelt cry. Now it is very good that you fear hell, and desire to love God. Actually we don`t have within us (as you and we well know) that kind of pure love. So....it is only as we learn to walk with the Lord in our daily lives, repenting of things that come to our attention and learning to thank the Lord for the many things we have and that he saved us and is changing us.

The process is like going through a fire, so that the unclean comes to the surface, we repent and thank the Lord that that is being dealt with. Then on we go and other things, behaviours surface. We actually do not realise the muck that is in us from our selfish lives. We tend to cover it all with a nice surface of civilisation. But if, now if you/we work with the Holy Spirit them bit by bit we start to address all those selfish behaviours that manifest in various ways.

Then over time you begin to realise that God is on your side and He is working in your life and lo and behold there arises in your/our hearts that song of thankfulness and overflowing gratitude for taking a wretch like you/me and changing us. We are needed in the process due to us having a free will. So ...this is the dying to our selfish ways and receiving the very life of Christ within which is the ONLY thing, the ONLY character that we will be in eternity.

Not long to go now bro, so work with the Holy Spirit as He highlights areas, behaviours relationships, BUT don`t get condemned, (enemies strategy sprinkled with dolops of discouragement) God ONLY CONVICTS for us to want to change.

`Love` is a process of giving of your self, (God so loved.....He gave...` John 3: 16) So it`s a journey with wonderful insights and joys and learning to `let go` and receive God`s care & guidance over you.

BTW I never, but never, ever want to go back to the way I was, I am still `letting go` until I am `caught away` to Him.

regards, Marilyn.

hello  Tyler22

i was told by a preacher once that i was double minded and i still am.. why tonight whilst i am listening to a talk about false teachers and prophets i was aware.. kind of... the background dialogue but its so habitual i try to busy it or drown it out. and just now reading your post has brought it into the spot light.

i have times when i am feeling so tormented i really dont think i can hack it. the best way imo is the bible we are living in the days of entertainment.. (the god(less) channel cbn) false prophets.

the bible is the only way of knowing God. when people said that to me in the past i metophorically was looking around them for a better answer!

The peace of simply knowing HIM.   mabel this is exactly how I was called. .  put right in the bible and I just read it and keep reading it daily.  IT makes simple

what mans mind has complicated.  YOU Just dig in deep into its pages.    Man adds lots of clutter and confusion into what the bible would make so simple and clear.

Its why we have so many strifes and etc.    most have sat under men that have taught things that they had to make complex in order to TOOT their own belief and teaching

about what they THINK it should say.   Mabel.  you just read that bible dear sister.   I promise it will clear things up so fast .

That is not double minded,  its just your mind gets distracted.   you just get distracted is all.    The double minded are unstable in all their ways.

double minded would be like,   trying to say you love GOD, but really your affections are on love of money or wordly cares and pleasures etc.

SINGLE minded is just having all hope above on Him , all affections above on him.    You don't seem double minded, what you just described

is more like you don't stay focused , you can get distracted by things , background etc.    MAINLY just stay and increase your bible reading time.  Man its so peaceful.

Sin wars against the soul.    You have a paranoid fear  of it , means you must be committing an habitual sin .   I know most wont tell you that .

But its true.   We cannot have peace of mind while in sin.  it wont happen.    Cry out to GOD for help and make yourself fully persuaded that by Him you will cease this asap.

We have to do our part , and our part is to OBEY the HOLY SPIRIT within.    Sin has caused many to go paralyzed with fear , then something far worse happens

they find a false peace in a false doctrine .   Don't let sin overcome you,  YOU overcome sin by the power of Christ .    IF for example your sin

is , I don't know say,   pornography or etc.  YOU GOTTA cease it .   just make up that mind and understand that the end of sin will be death.

See the problem is we today have been taught by sloppy evangelism things like ya cant fall away or whatever, so this lessens the dire need to see sin as great evil

and it lessens the dire need for GOD to help one overcome it .    You cease it asap.    the early church was grave against sin.  don't even let these things

once be named among you as becometh saints , TODAY has become OH God knows we cant stop sinning

GO and sin no more has become well try and sin less

and LET all who name the name of Christ DEPART from inquity , has become oh God knows yourheart he loves you as is,  he knows we cannot cease etc.

This kind of doctrine is eating people up  and worse in time it takes and promotes falshoods .     SIN is the root of your fear.  So be fully persuaded whatever it is

you doing NEEDS to cease asap.  GET that serious mindset again.   And my advice read the bible daily and just pray and cry out to GOD for a whole new heart.

Look at the examples of true men in the bible , they were grave, serious ,    that sure is gone today for most churches.

WE got to start afresh and anew TODAY .  yesterday IS GONE tyler , GONE , so TODAY is the day you make that mind up , start afresh and anew

and cease the sin that has hold on you.  TODAY , forget yesterday , forget it .  its done and over with .  BUT TODAY and every day we are allowed to be here

from now on , start today, dig afresh and anew in the bible and start praying to GOD for wisdom , understanding , knowledge.

let wordly pursuits die , let all affections be on HIM above , once again.

The Lord Jesus wants to heal you. Just come to Him.

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - Matthew 11:28-29

I still remember how my mind was so disturbed and oppressed and today I am enjoying peace and love. And that is so powerful, it is something that exceeded all my expectations.

Glory to God! Amen.

I remember a phrase that it is not a heroic surrender, but a simple sinking into the will of God.

Another is, don't wrestle, just nestle in Father god's arms.

Question: "What does it mean to be double-minded (James 1:8; 4:8)?"

Answer:
The term double-minded comes from the Greek word dipsuchos, meaning “a person with two minds or souls.” It’s interesting that this word appears only in the book of James (James 1:8; 4:8). Bible scholars conclude that James might have coined this word. To grasp the full meaning of this word, it is best to understand how it is used within its context.

James writes of the doubting person that he is “like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does” (James 1:6–8). A doubter is a double-minded person. Jesus had in mind such a person when He spoke of the one who tries to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). As such, he is “unstable,” which comes from a Greek word meaning “unsteady, wavering, in both his character and feelings.”

A double-minded person is restless and confused in his thoughts, his actions, and his behavior. Such a person is always in conflict with himself. One torn by such inner conflict can never lean with confidence on God and His gracious promises. Correspondingly, the term unstable is analogous to a drunken man unable to walk a straight line, swaying one way, then another. He has no defined direction and as a result doesn’t get anywhere. Such a person is “unstable in all he does.”

Those who are double-minded do not have the faith spoken of in Hebrews 11:1, 3: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. . . . By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” We cannot be both “certain” and doubting, as is the double-minded person. One part of his mind is sure of something, while the other part doubts. It brings to mind the “pushmi-pullyu” of the Dr. Doolittle stories, an animal with a head at either end of its body and which was constantly trying to walk in two directions at once. Such is the double-minded man.

Jesus declared, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other” (Matthew 6:24). God and the things of this world are of such opposite natures that it is impossible to love either one completely without hating the other. Those who try to love both will become unstable in all their ways. If someone struggles with being double-minded, he or she should read, study, and memorize the Word, for it is the Word of God that produces faith (Romans 10:17). And he or she should pray for faith. God freely gives what is good to those who ask Him (Luke 11:9–12), and it’s good to ask for an increase of faith (Luke 17:5; Mark 9:24).
