The "Authorities" are God's servant for our good. What if the authorities (Govt) and the wrong doer are one and the same? How do we comply with Romans 16:17 NIV? Or Titus 3:10 NIV after making our objections known? We're told to keep away from them. How do we comply Matthew 5:30, 18:8 or Mark 9:43, 9:45 NIV? Where we're taught to separate ourselves from that which would cause us to sin. How do we comply if the "Authority" (Govt) is the evil doer? The creators of sinful laws divisive language?

They did not have laws that protected them. They were being told to worship Caesar under penalty of death. The Jews were stoning them and the Romans were feeding them to lions and using them as human torches. But Paul still told them to be respectful to civil authorities as obey the laws as much as possible without defying God. So I very much take these words to heart. In some parts of the world it is harder to obey the laws than others. India and Muslim countries make it very hard at times. But in as much as possible we are to try to live at peace with all men, to do good to those who persecute us and pray for those who spitefully use us, and to do so in the authority and power that God has given us. We are not to be doormats to be walked on but to obey and go the extra mile with dignity and love.
