In the above verse,Daniel writes that a military will accomplish three objectives.

To profain the sanctuary

To abolish the daily sacrifice,

And will place the abomination that causes desolation.

Seems simple enough to understand. What I can't understand is how people can not understand such a simple verse.Several times have I seen different people interpret this as a man claiming to be God.

Now we know with perfect logic a military can cause desolation using weapons designed to cause desolation.

And we know that a man claiming to be God anywhere at anytime does not cause desolation. It may cause him to be laughed at.It may cause others to be dismayed by his audacity, but it certainly does not cause desolation.

So how is it that people can not understand sound doctrin such as this one simple verse?

Have they been deceived by false teachers? Are they confusing parts of scripture with other parts that bare no meaning to this one verse? What ever the cause,it's a mystery to me how someone can not understand something as simple as this.

One thing for sure. They will not understand the terrifying experience the people are fleeing from.At least those who can flee.

You need to understand what doctrine is. Nothing here comprises actual doctrine.

There is no "doctrine" of Tribulation, no "doctrine" of the rapture.   Christians can differ on these things and debate them vigorously because they are not doctrinal nature.    So no matter what view people take, they are not in "false doctrine"  if they take a post trib, mid trib or pretrib rapture position.  Even those who believe in no rapture not engaging in false doctrine.

Do you not even read the subject matter of a topic before starting your arguments ,conflict and strife?

The verses I quoted say nothing of rapture or tribulation.Good grief.

Where did I say anything about the rapture?

The topic you raised is about events happening in the Great Tribulation.  A lot of people on this board treat the issues surrounding Tribulation and Rapture as "doctrine"  to the point that those who teach a pre-trib rapture are accused of teaching false doctrine.  So, it was worth mentioning given the fact that they will be reading this thread, as well and not just you.   So what I said was for their benefit as well.

Lets get this straight. This thread has nothing to do with the rapture .Why are you using the rapture to cause conflict in a thread that has noting to do with the rapture?

You seem to only want to stir the pot to cause discord. At least you could have kept your disputes in line with the verse in question.

The verse states a military will place the abomination that causes desolation.Nothing about a rapture. It doesnt mention the word tribulation. Now do you have anything to say about the scripture in question or are you going to start another argument that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject?

Doctrine is only a set of beliefs by a group or church.Often by intpretation of one thing or another.

On this board for example someone is preaching a man claiming to be god is the abomination that causes desolation. This would be a false belief or false doctrine because  the scripture plainly states that a military places the abomination that causes desolation. It has been a belief or doctrine that a millitary places the abomination since Daniel wrote tbis verse. That would be sound doctrin .

So the question remains, how can someone not understand such a simple verse?

I am not making it about the rapture, but simply using that as an example of things in eschatology that are not doctrines, but are treated as doctrines.  The abomination that causes desolation takes place in the tribulation, pure and simple and there are no doctrines about it or anything that takes place in it.   That's the only point I was making.

No, that is not what doctrine is. Doctrine is properly understood as those principles that form the foundation for practical Christian living.   Not every teaching is "doctrine."   Doctrine comprises the essential theology of the Church concerning the nature of God, the nature of redemption/salvation, the relationship of the Church to the world, the Christian life, ordinances of the Church, the nature of the Church, etc.

The nature of eschatology is such that it contains a lot of speculation due to the fact that God has not shed enough light for anyone to be terribly dogmatic about the details.   We know some of what will happen, but there is a lot about it that is simply unknowable because, frankly, there is missing information that God chose not to reveal, on purpose.

A person can be wrong about a biblical topic that is not doctrinal in nature and not be guilty of "false doctrine."   False doctrine comprises teachings that contradict the established, essential doctrines of the Church as found in Scripture.    Those who may be mistaken about something concerning future events, are not engaging in false doctrines given the lack of information we have on those kinds of issues.

There's not a lack of information to know that a military places the abomination of desolation because that is EXACTLY what scripture says.A millitary places theabominatin that cause desolation.

I don't really care.  The point is that people can disagree about eschatology without it being doctrinal crisis.
