A good part of Jesus's earthly ministry, along with the disciples, was casting out demons. After that, not much is said about the topic.

I'm trying to understand more about spiritual warfare, possession and the power that evil spirits wield.

Do demons still possess people, and can they possess Christians? What do they do - does a person know they are possessed? How can they be cast out - by the person themself, the prayers of others, the ministry? Does it take special exorcism?

Also, can the devil read a person's mind?

According to Ephesians 2,  even worse than that.  The devil is the SOURCE/or in control/ of most people's thoughts. (even though they most often don't know it/ are not aware of it/  and other 'Christians' will tell them they are FINE and GOOD and NO WORRIES !

That is a lot of questions.....  try this book.  I think it will answer all your questions.

"Spiritual Warfare"  by Dr. Karl Payne.  There is much to learn before getting involved.

Obviously not , at least not all the time (many posters don't realize this).

Jesus sends the demons away.  Read only in the Bible if you seek the truth.  It is simple, as YHWH Says -

men complicated it , being deceived themselves.

Learn to trust Jesus , and the Father, to reveal the Truth to you.

Men will not. (indeed, cannot)

Despite science and belief in the natural world the power of Satan and his lot has not diminished.

He still rules this world and is responsible for ongoing miseries upon miseries.

Also when it comes to false gospels and deceiving doctrines they abound without limit

1  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2Peter 2:

Is there a connection between mental illness and demons? Yes I believe so.

Is there a connection between demons and the promotion of abortion on demand, pornography and homosexuality and the destruction of heterosexual marriage?

You better believe it. Some of Satan's best work.

Yes demons still possess people. Mental illnesses. Satanic rituals and worship. False religions. Violence and sexual lusts.

Depends what you mean by Christian? A worldly Christian who merely "gives their heart to Jesus after a sinner's prayer" has no spiritual power to resist Satan and make him flee.

But on the other hand a Spirit filled Christian - one who can pray in tongues daily - has more than enough spiritual power to cast out demons and to be free from them.

Remember in Mark 16:17  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

this is completely true.

A Spirit filled Pentecostal Christian is not possessed by demon(s) but if one gets lazy and worldly then the power of sin rises and the flesh prevails against the Spirit.

Exorcisms are dramatic and Hollywood has much to answer for here.

Get baptized in the Holy Spirit and you won't be possessed by anyone else other than God. If another person is possessed by the darkness then lay hands on them and pray in tongues.

Powerful words "Get thee behind me Satan, in the name of Jesus."

Yes the Devil can read minds, possesses minds, influence minds. That is why in the NT we are described as being bound, being in bondage, being children of the devil. and even belonging to the kingdom of darkness.

This is why we need the gospel and the Holy Spirit and our own special spiritual prayer language to be strong in power and might through God to the pulling down of imaginations and desires and to be set free...

For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.  1Corinthians 4:20

10  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11  Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Colossians 1:

The devil can read your mind when you open yourself through sin.

Think of it this way. You have a passing thought to see a Phycic. You don't know where the thought came from, but you entertain the idea.

(The thought came from a demon, but it is up to you to say "no way, away from me devil" or " Lord fill me with your thoughts")

As you continue to entertain the idea. You begin to make excuses why it is ok to do that.

Finally you go to the Phycic.

(Now you crossed a line. You went from thinking about it to doing it. This is more like you opening a spiritual door to your being, and a demon put its foot in the door) it is nearly impossible to get that door shut again once the persons "innocence" is penetrated.

My personal advise to you is, do not get involved with the spiritual unless you get a strong calling from God to do so.

Demons still possess people today, yes. But they cannot ever possess saved people because that would have to imply that Satan can cast out the Holy ghost.

I knew someone once who grew up in a Buddhist Temple in Taipei where the locals would often bring in possessed people to the old Catholic nun who ran the infirmary there to cast out the demons. He saw many demon possessed people there including one who was so bad he was climbing the walls, spoke English (the man didnt know English) and the cops had to shoot him because his case was so bad (and obviously the nun wasnt successful)

He also told me once of coming across a Hindu Yogi who visited there once, and this man came up to him, pointed out a flock of geese flying overhead in their usual V shaped formation, and told him to pick one out (he was taught by his master to always obey a master, and being only a child at the time he didnt know any better but to obey). So he picked one, the yogi pointed  to the bird and just said DIE. The bird dropped to the ground dead.

My friend's own master came up to the man and threw him out and the man just laughed maniacally carrying the goose by the neck over him shoulder

The devil cannot read your mind, no. And the most reliable way to cast out demons is to pray to the one and only person who is stronger than they, Jesus.

It isnt Satan who casts out the Holy Spirit, we do that ourselves.

If you think that just because a person says, Jesus is my God and Savior. That they suddenly become perfect, you are wrong. That is a delusion.

Satan and the demons will attack anyone who strives to walk in the light of Christ. (They live in the darkness)

But it is people who make the choice, daily. In fact every second of every day, we chose to be with Jesus or not.

Being saved is only bringing you to Jesus. And even if you recieve Jesus into your heart, you can still fall.

Look at Judas. Jesus sent the apostles into the towns. They were given authority over demons and healed people.

After returning, they were excited, and telling of thier experiences. Jesus said to them, "rejoice not that you have done these things, but that your names are written in heaven".

Judas was specifically named as one who went into the towns. Yet later in the scripture it states that Satan entered him.

1) Those who are truly saved will never be possessed. though we can fall into sin, that is not the same thing as casting out the holy Ghost. Those who claim to be Christian and then walk away were never true Christians to begin with

2) I never said that.

3) YES Satan attacks anybody, Christian or otherwise, but that is not the same thing as outright possessing a Christian. No truly saved Christian can ever be possessed because (well, I already said it) Satan cannot cast out the Holy Ghost....and neither can we.

Maybe you didnt see what i wrote about Judas, or maybe you are just trying to avoid scriptural truth.

Let me be frank. Judas's name was written in heaven. Jesus says that Himself. Yet later in the scripture it states the devil entered him.

Now what part of being saved dont you understand. Judas was "saved", his name "was" written in heaven.

Jesus later states, "it would have been better if he'ld never been born"

So why do you keep running from scriptural truth.

Honestly, i cant figure some of you guys out. You will quote scripture to benifit your cause, but you can't argue with what Jesus Himself says.
