Read psalm 82 and Gen 6. See how the disobedient angels were admonished in the High Council. There is other stuff too.

That was the reason for the flood.

That was sort of my point I was hiding behind.

These were not demons or unclean spirits in my view, they were angelic beings in Gen 6:.  You know the story, they produced hybrids called the Nephilim. It's not recorded in the Bible that Adam, Seth, Noah, etc. cast out any demons or any mention of unclean spirits / evil spirits (less Satan as I omitted previously) as described after the flood and in the New Testament.

I think fallen angles and unclean / evil spirits are different 'ranks' of the demonic under world. By the sudden appearance of these unclean / evil spirits and demonic possessions directly only after the flood is telling. I won't get into where the 200 angles that left their 1st estate are now, but these angels can't be part of the demonic possessions.

Many conservative theologians take the view that 1/3 of the heavenly host that fell with Satan are the ones that possess humans. That maybe true and I don't necessary disagree, but what about all the Nephilim and their descendants, where are their spirits that once had bodies? Why would an angelic being who can transform into about anything it wants, desire to seek flesh and a body?

Genesis 3

The Fall

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LordGod among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,

“Cursed are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
    all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush your head,
    and you will strike his heel.”

16 To the woman he said,

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
    with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
    and he will rule over you.”

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
    through painful toil you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
    and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”

Now, now, now angels4u... I specifically excluded the devil (Satan).

I'm implying that you don't see the spiritual realm of unclean spirits, evil spirits and demons or demonic possessions prior to Noah's flood. There's no record of Adam, Seth, Enoch, Noah, etc. of casting out or having problems with the rankings of demonic spirits. Until after the flood of Noah, I think that is telling? Just an observation on my part.

Nephilim and their descendants

Check out LA Marzulli.

The demons are disembodied spirits of dead Nephilim (Enoch) and other sources. Most of the demons were created by the flood that was sent to get rid of the angelic experimentations with Yahweh's Creation.

A few somehow survived - or there was another lesser incursion (Gen 6).

Ps 82 gives an account of Yahweh's displeasure at the sinning council members. Saul called them principalities and powers - rulers of our present age. Yahweh still uses them for His ends, but they are a horrible bunch and bent on our destruction along with the various demons they control. God always created hierarchies, so we see this in Gabriel's message to Daniel where he had to get the assistance of Michael to continue the fight with the prince of Persia.

What caused it?? Well there is a fable or a story that when the Lord created His people, us humans, it was as a result of His foreseeing angelic disobedience - further more, there was a decree that the members of His High Council had to bend the knee to His new creation. Thus it was that the iniquitous ones showed their hand by refusing to bow to mere humans. Yahweh is so very, very clever and His ways are past finding out.

Beware all those Myths.   Outside God's Word.

Distracting from ,  instead of,  Gospel of Jesus.

A good part of Jesus's earthly ministry, along with the disciples, was casting out demons. After that, not much is said about the topic.

I'm trying to understand more about spiritual warfare, possession and the power that evil spirits wield.

Do demons still possess people, and can they possess Christians? What do they do - does a person know they are possessed? How can they be cast out - by the person themself, the prayers of others, the ministry? Does it take special exorcism?

Also, can the devil read a person's mind?

The devil can read a persons mind because it is his playground.

They can possess Christians and i am a perfect example of that.

The fruits show possession. Just as the fruits show the holy spirit. I believe in spiritual upgrades, a person can become super spiritual but still be demon possessed.

Anyone including the person themselves can cast the demon out. I do it myself often. Problem is they like to keep coming back, it comes down to who is more persistent.
