President Donald Trump's White House physician declared him in "excellent health" after the president received his first medical checkup at Walter Reed military hospital on Friday, undergoing a physical examination

(snip)

Dr. Ronny Jackson, in a statement released by the White House, said the examination "went exceptionally well. The President is in excellent health and I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday."

Was he also evaluated at that time for his mental health? He should be evaluated mentally by a team of psychiatrists that are not his personal doctor. Someone that the Congressmen choose.

Doctors routinely evaluate patients for mental disorders. You just dont realize it when you get a physical.

And its not his personal doctor. This is a physician at walter reed military hospital, where ALL the presidents get their annual physicals and are fully evaluated. He was there for 3 hours. It wasnt to read old magazines in the waiting room. This is a more thorough physical than any one of us ever gets.

Psychiatrists go to school much longer and get a residency in their specialty. An internist is not qualified to evaluate effectively the mental health of a person.

Neither are psychiatrists that don't actually question and evaluate someone face-to-face. Yet,  you are willing to accept the unqualified opinions of Doctors who violate their professional code of ethics in order to render an unverified, unsubstantiated opinion on the president's mental health.

"An internist"...

Trump's physician is Rear Admiral (lower half) Ronny Jackson, MD, USN; he conducted his residency in Emergency Medicine and is also qualified in Submarine and Hyperbaric Medicine, per completion of the Navy’s Undersea Medical Officer Program in Groton, Connecticut (honor graduate, 1996). "Submarine and Hyperbaric Medicine" refers not only to the physical aspects of sailors' health in pressurized naval vessels, but also their mental performance and well-being. Submarine and Hyperbaric qualified doctors also have to evaluate the mental status of personnel in these conditions to ensure they are psychologically fit to continue duty, aka "personnel screening and assessment for enclosed environments".

That requires a higher level of observation and training than simple psychology, as those serving aboard nuclear subs are in very sensitive conditions and areas that cannot tolerate abnormal behaviors.

Additionally, Dr, Jackson served in 2005 with the 2nd Marines, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (Marines often use Naval Doctors in their units, as there are no Marine MD's). From there he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the emergency medicine physician in charge of resuscitative medicine for a forward deployed Surgical Shock Trauma Platoon in Taqaddum, Iraq.

ER doctors have to be able to evaluate the mental condition of a patient they get in the ED; this is even more true in a combat ER, where PTSD, AMS (Altered Mental Status) from a concussion, shock trauma and other sources happens far more frequently.

In 2006, while still in Iraq, Jackson was selected as a White House physician, and has served in the past three administrations  as the White House Physician.

With all of that said: I severely doubt there is any partiality on his part in this matter and I think his qualifications are well-established)

But....he is not a psychologist or a psychiatrist.Mental health is their specialty. The general practitioner or internist are not trained to pick up mental illnesses of the brain. Quite a difference. If you have a problem with your car would you go to an accountant?

He is trained to evaluate the mental condition of men on a submarine.   He is not an "internist."   That's the point.  He is trained to evaluate the mental health of people in extreme conditions where a mental health issue is a liability to the entire crew.

Your only problem here is that the doctor isn't giving the report you want him to give.   If the same doctor you are trying to discredit now, came out and said that Trump was not mentally healthy, you would be defending him as imminently qualified to make that diagnosis.

They don't have to be a "psychiatrist" to evaluate mental health.   If they note a problem then they can refer to a psychiatrist for further evaluation.  Trump is not showing any signs of mental disorders or lack of mental health.  No reason to refer to him to anyone else.
