I don’t think this is necessarily true. I loved both my parents, pretty equally I must say, yet I loved different things about them. Now that my parents are both deceased I look back and think about how my mom was like a best friend (and no, she did not play just the friend role, she disciplined me too) and my dad was more like a protector.
