As it is true we will one day stand before Christ, I do not think we will be alone. We will have a witness. That witness shall be our words. Jesus said that "By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." We cannot change them, and we cannot undo them. When they are spoken, they are written forever into eternity. Our words wait for us.

A single word, like a tiny match stick, can ignite the whole forest of the heart on fire, either for great destruction, or to create a beautiful relationship. 'You can cut the flesh with a knife and it will heal; you can cut the heart with a word, and it may never heal'.

Now comes the question, what do you think is a toxic Christian?

Manipulative christian or pastor that uses scripture to manipulate people for their own gain, coax you out of money and more.

All I'd add to this is don't be afraid to keep people at a distance or cut them out of your life entirely. There's a healthy balance of give and take to be found in any human relationship and people have their different comfort zones. If it gets consistently one sided then it's time to take a look at that relationship and then either fix it or remove it.

I like what someone else said, "Are we not all toxic in some way?"

SIN IS TOXIC and we are all sinners _ some being over the top who areny aware if their sin and do not have the LORD. And we cannot disassociate ourselves with all unbelievers and not show mercy, for who would lead them to THE LIGHT, who would show them God's LOVE if not us?

But yes, we need to set boundaries, and not let their sins affect us personally. Like with your own two-year old child on the floor kicking and screaming, carrying on, testing you, manipulating you, lying, rebellious and totally self focused; we must take a step back, shake our heads and not let it affect us, but be forthright with tough love and displine.

I think we see many adults who have been brought up in our generation by parents who have spared the rod and thus spoiled the child. Absence of father and proper discipline leads to these toxic behaviors.

Very good post to contemplate!

Avoid toxic people

hold hand up in stop position and walk away

repeat back to them what they are saying, but say I think you are feeling ..... how can I help?

Good Book:  Don't let Toxic People get the best of you   also there is one with the word Jerks in the title.

Can any of you relate and can you add advise from experience?

Yes, I can.  I am #3 and #6.  The solution was my wife responded to both with unconditional love, not rejection as the article advises (although she did set me in my place a few times).  The anger and negativity slowly dissipated over time with prayer and help from the Holy Spirit.

This article is not biblical advice, IMO.  It sounds more like something from a secular dating magazine.

It would be interesting to figure where these attributes fall within your toxic people? It seems many of these people have several of these traits. As they are callous to their sin, it invites other forms along for the ride.

Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven things which are also abominations: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brother's."
