Hello my dear friends I have committed the worse sin in life. I have had an affair with a married woman and can't get closer to God anymore. I can't pray and I'm down.

Welcome to Worthy, hopefully you can pray as David did...

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
(Psa 51:1-19)

Having an affair with a married woman is not the worst sin in life. Not believing in Jesus Christ is the worse sin in life. You can pray. Get on your knees and if you only say "Lord I am sorry" that is all you need to say. If we are so grieved that we can not speak God knows our heart and the Holy Spirit will speak for us. Now you need to forgive yourself. And not commit that sin again. And move on.

I have seen others who have done such things and it seems that even when you are really sorry and would never do such a thing again, and really ask God for forgiveness he will do so....  what I have seen in others is they really don't get close with the Lord again until they forgive themselves.....     You need to do that or it will eat at your insides until you are just an empty shell.

But if man would repeat his sinful act and has asked God for forgiveness it does not sound like it was a genuine repentance. If a man is truly sorry and genuinely wants God to help him with this sinful act he will not do it again. God knows the heart. The person who is not genuinely repentant will have to answer to God.

what you say is true but I'm not sure it pertains to the person writing the OP.   Sounds like he's pretty upset with himself.

Yes he is but he has to know that God forgives all our sins. But God does not want to be mocked. We can not ask for forgiveness and then turn around and commit the same sin.

Welcome to the human disg-race. As stated, since it is primarily a sin against God AND yourself, it is hardest to forgive yourself for falling. It is a bit of a trip to 'get back' but many have and will do that. Memorize psalm 51 and know that as MM said, it is no worse a sin maybe than others - but it leaves a very nasty lasting taste. All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of Yahweh.
