Too many people think that gifts make you a better Christian, which is not the case, better a humble heart before the Lord then a boastful proud spirit of thinking to be more spiritual because of gifts. I know from a person who told me,that she knew of somebody speaking in tongues which another person interpreted as it was speaking to the enemy ( in their language). We have to be so careful with gifts , is it from God or does it make us feel good? You are right with the warning of being careful with gifts. As I have stated, I do believe the gifts still operate today, but not all who profess to have a gift do. According to 1 Corinthians 12:11 "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.", God will not give a gift to someone He knows will abuse it or could not handle it. He looks for mature individuals to give gifts to and knows who they are. However, Satan, who can come as an angle of light, does convince people they have certain gifts and convinces them to continue in them no matter what others say as even, using the martyr card if people come against their usage of a false gift.
