Interesting News story I found that I would like to be able to to have an emotional free discussion about if at all possible. So none of this judgment casting onto people who are on food assistance programs.    Okay so here we go:

The Trump administration has a proposal to replace some of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s (SNAP) cash benefits with boxes of physical food.   From the way I read it to mean that instead of X amount of money put on a food stamp card and then people are free to pick what they want to buy each month. This program is going to do away with all of that and ship boxes of  non-perishable food items. Such as canned meats, peanut butter,  canned fruits and vegetables stuff like that.   I do not know if this is a good ideal or not. My questions are how much is it going to cost to have delivery trucks delivering food boxes instead of people just going and getting their own food. Also what about stuff like eggs, and milk and fresh vegetables. How is that going to work out?   I use eggs and milk for like everything!

So what do you all think of this ideal?

It's a good idea as long as it takes into account things like allergies and other special needs like Diabetes, et al.

It would make sure that the benefits are used only for real food.  I have seen food stamp benefits used for things like soda pop, frozen pizza, other junk food and people can even make cash withdraws on the cards and the cash is used for cigarettes and alcohol.

When I was growing up that was the way the system worked....    People came by a local place and picked up the products....   and I might add were very good.  My grand parents received those foodstuffs.

It was expensive to maintain and that's my understanding of getting the food stamp switch.....     There is a lot of fraud in the card program that should be addressed before going back to the Box method in my personal opinion.      Greed by the business world has made it too easy to cheat the system.

However I would say that in Oklahoma the average time a person is on food stamps is about 18 months....   and those who are on them permanently are mostly elderly living on Social Security or people who are really disabled....       I have heard of people selling their cards for cash to buy drugs, and every time I do hear of it I turn them in.        If we issued cards with photos on them it would help the fraud, and making the businesses where they are used check ID's it would help also.
So I would say that I would like to see us take the fraud out of the system we have now, and limit what people can buy at stores with the cards.

We have a non profit place here where I live that does the Box thing where people with 185% or less of the poverty level can go by and pick up a months worth of groceries.....   it works very well.   It runs off of grants and gifts.    It gets much of it's food from the Oklahoma Food Bank which is also non profit.            Either way could work, but it would be much better if we just put people to work so they could take care of themselves.

It is a controlling thing. People want to go to the grocery store and get what they want. Bad idea :(

It's not a controlling thing at all.    Food Stamps actually have rules about what you can and cannot  buy.  But when FS benefits were transferred to a debit style card as opposed to the monopoly money that they used to have,  those rules have been abused and people with FS are buying things that they are not supposed to get.

FS were set up to only provide the most basic food staples and the rules are no longer enforced.   Trump is returning the system back to what it was originally where you got things like peanut butter cereal, bread, butter cheese, milk, certain kinds of lunch meat, fruit and vegetables.   But now, people are able to get hot food from the grocery store deli, alcohol cigarettes, candy, soda pop and snacks and that is an abuse of the system.

Hmmm......I never thought of that. Also I am not sure how this will be more cost effected.  The Gov will have to pay to have the food shipped in then house somewhere, then pay people to pass it out. Id's will have to be check as they can't have just anyone showing up and getting food. So that needs to be consider. Also something to consider is will this cut into the local grocery store's income? Some small towns like the one I live in count on the first of the month when people get their food stamp money to be a busy day. If they will no longer be heading out to the local grocery stores, employ hours will be cut. I know this because I worked in retail. Slow days means a cut in hours.

I am going to research this some more and see if I can find a bit more info on it.

Are you expecting Socialism?

No but I am expecting the seven year tribulation. We are seeing the paved road to such a time.

This reminds me of Lazarus and the rich man Luke 16:19-31.

No reason for concern. God has it.
