And Jacob sod pottage:

and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. (red)

And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day, and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils;

and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way:

thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:29-34

And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham.

       And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. (Canaan)

     And the LORD appeared unto him, and said,

                 Go not down into Egypt;

             dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

          Sojourn in this land and I will be with thee, and will bless thee;

      for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries,

   and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

             And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,

             and will give unto thy seed all these countries;

             and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

     Because that Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Genesis 26:1-5

Genesis 26:15-25

15 So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.

16 Then Abimelek said to Isaac, “Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.”

17 So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar,where he settled. 18 Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them.

19 Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. 20 But the herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek,[a] because they disputed with him. 21 Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.[b] 22 He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth,[c]saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.”

23 From there he went up to Beersheba. 24 That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

25 Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well.

And long ago , the WORD became flesh and gives all who does drink of the well of the fountain of the water of life .

And nigh two thousand years later ,   brother pumpkin , and the sisters and all who love the LORD said , WE have but ONE FOUTAIN , FOUND and prepared for us In CHRIST .

and from those waters , that fountain , that well, we do drink and shall rejoice IN THE LORD .  For all who drink of these waters shall never die

and from their bellies spring up waters of His life .   And all the people said ,  PRAISE THE LORD .    PRAISE THE LORD .     Praise the LORD .

 So Isaac lived in Gerar.

When the men of the place asked about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “my wife,” thinking, “the men of the place might kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is beautiful.”

It came about, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out through a window, and saw, and behold, Isaac was caressing his wife Rebekah.

Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Behold, certainly she is your wife! How then did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”

And Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘I might die on account of her."

Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”

So Abimelech charged all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”

Now Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold.

And the Lord blessed him, and the man became rich and continued to grow richer until he became very wealthy; for he had possessions of flocks and herds and a great household so that the Philistines envied him. Genesis 26:6-14

Then Abimelech came to him from Gerar with his adviser Ahuzzath and Phicol the commander of his army.

Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me since you hate me and have sent me away from you?”

They said, “We see plainly that the Lord has been with you...

so we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you,

that you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace.

...You are now the blessed of the Lord.’”

Then he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. Genesis 26:26-30

In the morning they arose early and exchanged oaths;

then Isaac sent them away and they departed from him in peace.

Now it came about on the same day, that Isaac’s servants came in and told him about the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”

So he called it Shibah; therefore the name of the city is *Beersheba to this day. Genesis 26:31-33

*The well of the oath. Matthew Henry Commentary

' And it came to pass,
.. that when Isaac was old,
.... and his eyes were dim,
...... so that he could not see,
........ he called Esau his eldest son,
and said unto him, "My son:"
and he said unto him, "Behold, here am I."
And he said, "Behold now, I am old,
I know not the day of my death:
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons,
thy quiver and thy bow,
and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
And make me savoury meat, such as I love,
and bring it to me, that I may eat;
that my soul may bless thee before I die. '

(Gen 27:1-4)
