*6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.

And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

(Exodus 19:6-8)

*But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light  (1 Peter 2:9)

And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long,

and waxed louder and louder,

Moses spake,

and God answered him by a voice.

And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai,

on the top of the mount:

and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount;

and Moses went up.

And the LORD said unto Moses,

"Go down,

charge the people,

lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze,

and many of them perish.

And let the priests also,

which come near to the LORD,

sanctify themselves,

lest the LORD break forth upon them."

Exodus 19:19-22

And Moses said unto the LORD,

"The people cannot come up to mount Sinai:

for thou chargedst us, saying,

'Set bounds about the mount,

and sanctify it.'"

And the LORD said unto him,

"Away, get thee down,

and thou shalt come up,

thou, and Aaron with thee:

but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD,

lest he break forth upon them."

So Moses went down unto the people,

and spake unto them.

Exodus 19:23-25

Amos 8:11-14

11 "Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord God,
"When I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,
But rather for hearing the words of the Lord.
12 "And people will stagger from sea to sea,
And from the north even to the east;
They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord,
But they will not find it.
13 "In that day the beautiful virgins
And the young men will faint from thirst.
14 "As for those who swear by the guilt of Samaria,
Who say, 'As your god lives, O Dan,'
And, 'As the way of Beersheba lives,'
They will fall and not rise again."
NASB

I just read this tonight as I was reading in amos .

And God spoke all these words, saying:
*2“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
*3“You shall have no other gods before Me.
(Exodus 20:1-3)

*Egypt is a type of the world and sin./Being brought out of bondage Romans 6:18, Colossians 1:13, 2 Timothy 2:26

*"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." (Matthew 22:37)

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything  that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.

6 For I, the Lord your God, am a *jealous God, visiting[the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

(Exodus 20:4-6)

God is "jealous" in a different sense than humans are. He expects full devotion (not merely a partial, lukewarm commitment.) Worship belongs to God alone so He is right to be "jealous' of it. He has this unique position because we were created for His pleasure. (Revelation 4:11)

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain;

for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Exodus 20:7

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:

in it thou shalt not do any work,

thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter,

thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,

nor thy cattle,

nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that in them is,

and rested the seventh day:

wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day,

and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11

Honour thy father and thy mother:

that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house,

thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,

nor his manservant,

nor his maidservant,

nor his ox, nor his ass,

nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Exodus 20:12-17

And all the people saw the thunderings,

and the lightnings,

and the noise of the trumpet,

and the mountain smoking:

and when the people saw it,

they removed, and stood afar off.

And they said unto Moses,

"Speak thou with us, and we will hear:

but let not God speak with us, lest we die."

And Moses said unto the people,

"Fear not:

for God is come to prove you,

and that his fear may be before your faces,

that ye sin not."

And the people stood afar off,

and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

Exodus 20:18-21

Exodus 20:22-26 New International Version (NIV)

Idols and Altars

22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside Me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.

24 “‘Make an altar of earth for Me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause My name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.26 And do not go up to My altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’
