If I witness a brother commit an injustice (transgression) against myself or another, I have in my possession a potential for harm or healing. If no fuel is added to a fire, the burning goes out. If enough fuel is added, it will roar. God tells me, vengeance belongs to Him, and not the victim. He is the Father, the chastiser, not I. By making the offense public, I have given to them the potential for many possible offenses against God (sin) and the tearing down of a body (Of believers). The only way this works for me, is when I'm reminded to pray for the offender. It's difficult to pray for someone, and still hold a grudge. I do also admit, it ain't always easy.

Proverbs 17:9 NIV what does this mean? Amazing context: (see commentaries): http://biblehub.com/commentaries/proverbs/17-9.htm Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary 17:8. Those who set their hearts upon money, will do any thing for it. What influence should the gifts of God have on our hearts! 9. The way to preserve peace is to make the best of every thing; not to notice what has been said or done against ourselves. 10. A gentle reproof will enter, not only into the head, but into the heart of a wise man. 11. Satan, and the messengers of Satan, shall be let loose upon an evil man. (James 5:20) 'And above all things have fervent love to yourselves, for love will cover a multitude of sins.' (1 Peter 4:8) Hi there, When I came into this thread, I thought that the verse you would refer to would be one of the above, probably because I am familiar with them. I quote them because I think they are worth comparing with the one you have highlighted from Proverbs. My version of choice, because I am familiar with it, is the KJV, but the above were quoted from the MKJV. Looking up Proverbs 17:9, in the MKJV, I find that it adds something to that of the NV that you have used:- (Pro 17:9) 'He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends.' (ie., 'true friends') It gives another slant on it, I feel ? Thank you Edited February 27, 2018 by Christine

I think it means you just let it go, and don't bring it up again, not like this next verse. 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 8 Love covers a great many sins.
