He gave fish to people, to eat when they were hungry.

Why not meat? Maybe because he didn't eat meat?

Who knows if he actually ate meat or not? But he didn't disapprove of anyone eating meat. He knew that the people kept flocks of livestock, which presumably weren't kept for anything else other than food (unless some Jews liked having lots of pets!).

He also attended wedding feasts where meat was on the menu. Unless he said to the host "no thanks I'm on a diet" and ate nothing at all, or said "no thanks I'm vegetarian" and ate everything but meat, then we can only assume that he was a meat-eater. But we can't say for certain either way!

Hi Ogner

Lamb was eaten at Passover I'm sure.

Jesus observed the Passover feast, so I presume He ate meat.

re: fish - fish could be preserved (salted/dried etc), so was used as a travelling food item - hence the fish was easily  on hand when feeding the masses.

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.
John 21:12‭-‬13

Why not meat? for example ovine meat.

Hi Ogner,

They were on the shore, so fish was on hand.

1) Can you prove that?

2) meat - meat could be preserved too (salted/dried etc), so was used as a travelling food item.

Right Jesus was on the shore. not at sea. But the important idea is that for God everything's at hand, everything's around.

So, that tells me nothing.

Prove it as in chapter/verse?

No I can't - it's just my opinion  :)

I could very well be wrong.

Yes, God can use anything, you are 100% - my rationale was simply that Jesus was next to the sea, so since fish was 'right there' so to speak, it was the first option (in my mind).

I could be completely off base for sure.
