Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Theresa May said in a joint statement that the use of a military-grade nerve agent “constitutes the first offensive use of a nerve agent in Europe since the second world war” and “threatens the security of us all”. “The UK briefed thoroughly its allies that it was highly likely that Russia was responsible for the attack,” they said in Thursday’s statement.
