This has been hotly debated for centuries. Part of it depends how 'mystery Babylon' is used. It could be a place, political or economic system or religious system in my opinion. As things draw closer to conclusion, we're getting a much better understanding on how these things are coming about. Basically Daniel implies the people will start to understand these things during the end-times, and that is certainly the case right now. 

One thing I keep in mind is, in some cases I believe they used the words 'mystery Babylon' as a code word for Rome. During the Apostles writings they were under persecution from Rome, and if any of their letters or documents were discovered to be disparaging or treasonous to Rome, they would be imprisoned and / or put to death.

"Mystery Babylon" is the mother of harlots and the abominations of the earth.  It is a reference to the influence of Satan's kingdom in the natural realm.  Satan's kingdom gave birth to all unfaithfulness and abominations on earth.  When a population center becomes so influenced by spiritual wickedness, it's allegorically referred to as Babylon.

• And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and of all who have been slain on the earth.”  Revelation 18:24

The blood of all who've been slain, righteous and unrighteous, is found in her.  This shouldn't be confused with being guilty of shedding righteous blood.  It's much broader in scope than that.

Mystery Babylon started when Satan caused Adam and Eve to be unfaithful and will end when Jesus returns to destroy Satan's kingdom, the ultimate regime change.

Would you agree the times of the gentiles started in Babylon with Nebuchadnezzar and ends at the end of the tribulation?

The standard interpretation of the Reformers, which still stands, is that the woman is the Roman Catholic Church. She became a harlot/prostitute when she prostituted her religious authority with the political authority of the Roman Empire. The Church fornicated with the State.

In Revelation, a woman represents a religious body, of which there are two types in Christianity: the Virgin Bride of Christ, and the Great Whore of worldliness. The Roman Catholic Church was the mother of all churches that became fallen and corrupted by prostituting themselves with the world. Her harlot daughters are all those churches who followed in her footsteps.

 

In addition, scarlet and purple is the color of what and whom? Not to mention the crusades and reformation. Not much doubt about who this woman is.

According to many Bible scholars and historians the great whore is identified as a great religious system, the Roman Catholic Church, which they claim will fulfil Rev. 17 and dominate the Antichrist for a short time during his rise over the ten kings and until the middle of the Week. Then the beast and the ten kings will destroy her (Rev. 17:9-17).

Even catholic divines admit Rev. 17 is a description of their church. (See the writings of Cardinal Ballarmine and the French Prelate. Boussuet.)

She has a name on her forehead, MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT. "THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS" Rev. 17:5. This name is certainly appropriate to Romanism. Hundreds of different branches of Christendom have been formed since the reformation. The word HARLOTS no doubt refers to these branches which will become more apostate as the age ends andwill finally become united with Rome again to fulfil this revelation of things after the churches. Many churches are looking to Rome even now.

THE MOTHER OF ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Rev. 17:5. This is very appropriate of Romanism. The many abominations started and practices by the ancient Babylonian cult and her present successor go far to identify this woman as a symbol of Romanism.

THE GREAT WHORE. Rev. 17: 1-2. She is called this because of her illicit intercourse with the kings of the Earth in religious practices and uperstitions, and which give her influence over the nations of the ten kings.

And there are many more examples!!!!! Even the attire worn by her clergy. Rev. 17:4. Scarlet is the color of Romanism, being reserved for the Pope and his cardinals. This religious denomination is the richest on Earth as pictured in this verse.

The drunkenness of this whore proves her to be Romanism. Rev. 17:6-7. This finger of accusation is no mere accident. While it refers to the martyrdom of saints "after the churches," by Romanism, still is it not common knowledge that this same persecution has gone on in past ages? It has been estimated that more than 200,000,000, people have been slain by Romanism in the past. These terrible days of persecution will come again, at least after the rapture of the church, and before Christ comes to the earth,

Simple rule of thumb for me, is always look in scripture for the symbolic references found in scripture.

The difference here in thinking is, nowhere in scripture does it state anything about Rome or a Christian denomination becoming a spiritual whore in His eyes.  The connection to Rome is always tied to the city on seven hills, which also points to Jerusalem, a city on seven hills.

The ultimate clarification is offered in Ezekiel 16, where this is said.

 

Ezekiel 16:44 “Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you: ‘Like mother, like daughter.’"

 

Proverbs aren't to be forgotten, they should be passed down from one generation to the next.  Within this chapter, Jerusalem is told she is worse than Sodom, and we all know what happened there.  You won't find a more scathing or clear description of the mother of harlots than what you find in Ezekiel 16, unless you look outside of scripture.  John's symbols won't be found outside of scripture though, once you venture out there it is typically based on emotions from those who have escaped the RCC's clutches.

Nothing has changed for Israel since God gave this prophecy through Ezekiel, nor does anything change for them until they look upon the one whom they pierced.  The greatest abomination is yet to come, and it doesn't take place in Rome, it  takes place in Jerusalem, the centerpiece of the end times.

The Popes claim the title of Vicar of Christ, which means “substitute Christ.”

The word antichrist doesn’t just mean “against Christ“, it means “in place of Christ.”

These blasphemous Papal proclamations oppose what Jesus told us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Popes proclaim that Mary lived a sinless life and is the co-redeemer of salvation.

They proclaim that salvation is ONLY through the Roman Catholic Church.

Popes have repeatedly declared that Bibles are forbidden and should be burned.

They forbid Bible reading, as it testifies to salvation by faith in Jesus Christ, not by works through the Papal Church. And it testifies that they are the Little Horn of Daniel, the Beast of Revelation, and the Pope, the Son of Perdition.

God had the Bible written in Hebrew and Greek, not Latin.  God caused the Bible to be translated into French, German, English and other languages, so the Papal Church opposes the hand of God.

The reason they don’t forbid Bible reading now is that God used the advent of the printing press, and Bible societies to spread Bibles all over the world, so they can’t stop it.

Popes proclaimed that all the world should submit to their authority or be killed.

But now instead of opening declaring all of the above Papal Proclamations, they work covertly to seize power over the whole world.

Pope Francis is drawing the world to him by declaring that all ways lead to the same God.

Pope John XXIII wanted the Catholic Church to engage in the contemporary ecumenical movement, and the “Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity” was created to draw Christian Churches to the Pope.

You’ve seen this play out as Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Rick Joyner and other “Christian” leaders have embraced the Pope.

Friend, as you’ve seen on this study page and the other Bible studies on this website, the Papal Church is the Whore of Babylon who is drunk with the blood of the saints.

No Christian Pastor should have anything to do with the Pope, and they should be declaring that the Papal Church is the Little Horn of Daniel, the Beast of Revelation and the Pope, the Son of Perdition.

After he was elected, the cover of Time Magazine declared Pope Francis to be the “New World Pope“, and since his election Pope Francis has made it abundantly clear that he is going to make ecumenical outreach a top priority.

Pope Francis is trying to draw Muslims to him, but focusing on God, the Father; and saying that Jesus is his teacher, as Muslims believe that Jesus was a good teacher, but don’t believe that He was God. The Bible says that Jesus is the Creator and the Light of the World, so the Pope’s words oppose the Bible.

“Jesus is my teacher and my pastor, but God, the Father, Abba, is the light and the Creator. This is my Being.  Do you think we are very far apart?” (31)

Pope Francis implies that “Allah” and the God of the Bible are the same.

“I then greet and cordially thank you all, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; first of all the Muslims, who worship the one God, living and merciful, and call upon Him in prayer, and all of you.” (32)

Pope Francis is drawing Jews to him.

Pope Francis also wrote that the Catholic Church holds “the Jewish people in special regard because their covenant with God has never been revoked.” (33)

In the name of ‘peace‘ the False Messiah will offer one religion that reconciles the differences between the major religions.

And the enemy of ‘peace‘ and the world, will be Christians who will not bow down to the authority of the beast.

“We confess that the Pope has power of changing Scripture and of adding to it, and taking from it according to his will.” (38)

The Roman Catholic Church reveals that they worship Babylonian, Egyptian and Roman pagan gods, by the symbols and idols they use. Look at these Images of the Roman Catholic Church .

The Popes of the Roman Catholic Church consistently sought to eliminate the Two Witnesses of the Word of God and the Church of Christ.

It seems that if God will let the cup of staggering go to the tormentors, it would make sense that ROME become the tormentors?

 Rome also took the colors of their decor from the old testament scripture Exodus 28:36 .

 

Rome seems to fulfill a lot of antichrist descriptions mentioned in the Holy Bible.

1) the RCC changed Gods Holy Laws, times, dates.

The Roman Catholic Church even changed the Ten Commandments which God wrote on two stone tablets. 

they changed Gods Holy Laws, the 10 commandments by removing the 2nd commandment of not having any idols, and changed the wording from" remembering the sabbath" to remembering to keep holy the Lords day .

6)The  make people bow down to popes, and pray and worship to Mary and have themselves be called" Holy FATHER". (did Christ not say call no one Father only Your Father in heaven is your Father?)

7) They have great POWER over WORLD politics and the monetary system.

8) Their whole system is filled with occult symbolism, when Gods said in the complete ten Commandments before they were modified by the RCC that we should not make idols=graven images- or worship idols?)

Bible Editions that were CREATED by the Vatican and the United Bible Society for creating NEW translations are Omitting and Changing GODS WORD.   This why the openly coming together of the Catholics and the Protestants, evangelicals is a BIG mistake.

So Rome may in fact be the Great Harlot Babylon mentioned in Revelation, as God mentions in Isaiah 51: 22, 23, that He will  take it away from them(jew) and put it into the hand of the tormentors.

19. The Beast and the False Prophet (Rev 13:1-18)

 

The Beast Out of the Sea
(13:1-10)

As one studies this section, it is helpful to keep in mind that this prophecy is closely tied to the prophecies of Daniel (cf. Daniel 2:42, 44; 7:7, 8, 20; 8:25; 11:36; 9:27). Also remember that this is still a parenthetical section describing one of the key forces, kingdoms, and personages of the Tribulation. In his first advent, the Lord Jesus said:

He who believes in Me does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me. 46 I have come as light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears My sayings, and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. (John 12:44-47) (emphasis mine).

Two beasts are described in chapter 13, one from the sea (vs. 1) and one from the land (vs. 11). With the beast out of the sea, we come to that one who, regardless of his claims as the white horse rider or peace maker, comes as a great source of darkness into the world. He comes not to save the world, but to damn the world. In essence, what we have in this chapter in the rise of the beast and the false prophet is nothing short of the ‘trinity from hell’ in that both are the product of the machinations of that old serpent, the devil or Satan.

His Appearance and Identity (1-2)

Chapter 12 closed with the dragon who, knowing that his time was short, was enraged with the woman (Israel), and with him going off to make war with her children. In the first verse of chapter 13 in our English Bibles, we find him standing on the seashore with the beast rising up out of the sea, but in the Greek text this sentence is verse 18 of chapter 12. There is a logical progression here of cause and effect. The dragon standing on the sand of the seashore continues the story of the dragon of chapter 12 who, as explained in 12:9, is none other than Satan himself. Some manuscripts have “I stood,” i.e., John stood, but the older manuscripts have “he stood,” i.e., the angry dragon.

The logical progression is the angry dragon looks out over the sea, a picture of the Gentile world powers which he dominates. He is looking for two things: (a) For the best method with which to persecute Israel, and (b) for the best way he can rise to greater power in order to be worshipped. Chapter 13 describes the method he will choose, the end-time form of the old Roman empire which, by this point in the Tribulation, has developed into a ten nation confederation with a very subtle leader, one whom Satan will now use in the most hideous ways.

Who is Satan? As seen previously, he is the prince of this world and the god of this age. He is the fallen angel and the anointed cherub who fell from his place of service because he sought to be like the most high. Satan has always been desperately set on ruling men and being worshipped by them; now he sees his chance. The mystery of lawlessness has always been at work, but after the church age, the Restrainer (God indwelling His church by the Holy Spirit) has been removed (2 Thess. 2:6-7). Also, as Newell points out:

Because men by trifling with the truth and utter impenitence have opened the way, God will now send them a strong delusion that they may believe the devil’s lie (“the lie”—II Thessalonians 2:11, Greek).

The beast, therefore, set before us in Revelation 13, is the dragon’s masterpiece of delusion, leading to worship of himself (Revelation 13:4).¹⁵³

The “sand of the sea” undoubtedly portrays the many people who make up the nations, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea (Rev. 20:8). Standing on “the sand of the sea,” suggests Satan’s position as the usurper of the earth and its many peoples and of his power over them. Remember that Isaiah likens the nations to a roaring and restless sea that cannot be quiet and whose waters (their humanistic way of life and political agitation) can only churn up refuse and mud; a fitting picture of the products of a world without peace with God. They have no peace because they have rejected the true Prince of Peace and will turn to their own solutions to life and to the antichrist as their means to world peace, but in reality, this will be not much more than a self-centered pursuit for comfort and personal affluence (cf. Isa. 17:12-13; 57:20-21; Rev. 17:1, 15).

Before moving into chapter 13, a brief review of probable world conditions at this point will be profitable:

(1) The white horse rider who conquers (gains control) by peace tactics, power politics, and by his charismatic personality and persuasive language, has already risen on the scene (cf. Rev. 6:1-2; Dan. 8:23-25; 1 Thess. 5:11f). This brings about the ten nation confederation of Europe, a federation of nations that were once a part of the old Roman empire (cf. Dan. 2:42-44; 7:7-8, 20-24). We have the potential for this in NATO and in the European Common Market.

(2) The leader of this confederation will make a seven-year covenant with Israel designed to give Israel protection in the land and solve the very volatile Israel-Arab dispute of the coveted land of Palestine (Dan. 9:27). This treaty begins Daniel’s 70th week or the Tribulation.

(3) Three kings of the confederacy rebel, but the rising dictator defeats them (Dan. 7:8, 20-25) and emerges as the undeniable leader.

(4) It appears that the King of the North will at this point in the middle of the Tribulation attack Israel who will then be dwelling in the land in comparative peace and safety because of the covenant or peace treaty. This king of the North comes with his Arab allies, the Pan-Arabic block and her other allies (Ezek. 38:1-9).

(5) These armies (the King of the North and his allies) are destroyed on the mountains of Israel by the direct intervention of God (Ezek. 38:21-23). Regarding Ezekiel 38:1 and this invasion, Ryrie writes:

Vs. 38:1 Chapters 38-39 describe a future attack on Israel and God’s deliverance of His people. The invading armies come out of the remote parts of the north (38:15) to invade Palestine but are destroyed by supernatural intervention (39:3). Seven months will be required to bury their corpses (39:11-15), and their weapons will supply fuel for Israel for seven years (39:9-10). The time of the battle is unclear. Israel will be living in security, whether real or imagined (38:11-12), which might indicate that the battle takes place before the middle of the Tribulation, while Israel feels secure under a treaty with Antichrist. But the consummation of the battle involves birds and beasts eating the flesh of the warriors, a scene similar to the description of Armageddon at the end of the Tribulation (39:17-20; Rev. 19:17-18). Also, at the conclusion of the conflict the nations will understand the judging hand of God, and Israel will know that the LORD (Yahweh) is their God (Ezek. 39:21-22). Perhaps the first thrust will begin just before the middle of the Tribulation, with successive waves of the invasion continuing throughout the last part of that period and building up to Armageddon. John envisioned a battle of Gog and Magog at the conclusion of the millennial kingdom (Rev. 20:7-9), but this is different in time and characteristics from the one Ezekiel describes. The common use of Gog and Magog does not equate the two battles. Here those words refer to a definite area, but in Revelation they refer to enemies of Christ worldwide.¹⁵⁴

(6) This destruction of the King of the North will create a tremendous political vacuum in the world. Until now the head of the ten nation confederation has been a leader of the European Confederation only, but now with the dragon surveying the sea of nations, he sees the way open for world domination through this European dictator whom he has undoubtedly helped to bring to power. So now enters the system of the beast. The white horse rider who won his territory by peace tactics, now becomes the beast under the possession of Satan himself (Rev. 13:2b).

From the context, the dragon looks out over the sea of nations and then implements the system of the beast to carry out his desired goals—the persecution of Israel and his own worship (cf. 13:4-6).

“Then I saw a beast.” “Beast” is the Greek qhrion (cf. 6:8; 11:7) which refers to a wild and rapacious animal or beast. It is to be contrasted with zwon, “living creature,” used for the holy angels, and with kthnos, “a beast of burden” as an ox. Qhrion points out two things. First, it portrays the brutal, bloody, uncontrolled and wild character of the dictator and his system; it is inhuman. Second, qhrion portrays this antichrist figure as the epitome and paramount outgrowth of the character of Satan who is himself called “the great red dragon.”

As John is watching this scene, he sees the beast coming up out of the sea. “Coming up” is in a descriptive present which portrays the development of this man and his system through the political and military maneuvers that gradually bring him to power within the nations of Europe.

“The sea” as suggested, is symbolical of masses of people (cf. Rev. 17:15), and especially of the Gentile nations. The system of the beast will be derived from and will be the final Gentile world power to have dominion of Israel during the times of the Gentiles (see Luke 21:24). So Israel, as the nation to whom God promised the land of Israel, is related to the land, and the nations to the sea. In support of this are following facts:

(1) In Revelation 17:1, 15 and Daniel 7:2-3, all the nations portrayed there, which are linked with the waters or the sea, are Gentile powers as Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.

(2) In the visions of Daniel 2 and 7, Daniel sees Gentile powers who will continue to rule and dominate over Israel until the return of Jesus Christ. Jesus called this “the times of the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24). This began in 587 B.C. with the Babylonian captivity and will continue to the end of the Tribulation, until the return of Christ (Rev. 19).

(3) One should also note and compare Daniel’s description of the four Gentile powers (7:4-25), especially the fourth, with that of John in Revelation 13:2-6.

(4) Daniel 9:26-27 clearly shows that the final world ruler would be a Roman, one out of the old Roman empire, a Gentile power.

(5) Finally, some see the “sea” here as a reference to the Mediterranean Sea and believe the beast, though a Gentile, will rise up out of the Mediterranean area. The “sea” here shows us that the beast is both a Gentile and from the Mediterranean area.

“Having ten horns and seven heads.” This monstrous representation portrays the nature of the end time kingdom, the final worldwide political system. But what exactly is the point of the ten horns and the seven heads? What do they stand for?

Remember that in prophecy it is sometimes hard to determine when a passage is speaking about the king or the kingdom since the kingdom is the epitome of the king from whom it gets its character. For instance, even in the U.S., we often speak of the administration in power by the name of the President, i.e., the Clinton administration. Likewise, a passage may refer to the king in one verse and the kingdom in the next, or vice versa. This is evidently the case here. Verses 1 and 2 look more at the kingdom, the empire; verse 3 includes both, and verses 4 and following refer more to the individual, the satanically controlled or possessed dictator. So “the beast” may refer to the end time kingdom, the empire, or to the dictator or both.

The Ten Horns

“The ten horns” is a reference to the ten nation confederation of the future which will form the nucleus of this end time kingdom. According to Daniel chapters 2 and 7, it will be a revived form of the old Roman empire since these ten nations will come out of the fourth nation which would arise after Daniel’s time, historically we know this was Rome (Dan. 7:7, 24). Revelation 17:12 also states that “the ten horns which you saw are ten kings.” These are ten kings who rule over ten nations, fragments of the old Roman empire. After the fall of the empire, Rome was divided up into many separate kingdoms which became the European nations of modern times. But in the end times, these nations, at least ten of them, will confederate together as one, forming what is in reality a revived Roman empire. Since the fall of Rome, these fragments of the old empire have continued to exist, but in the future, they will be brought together in a revived Roman empire.

Rome will undoubtedly become the headquarters of the new empire, both politically and religiously at least during the first half of the Tribulation (cf. Rev. 17:7, 18 which shows the close affiliation of the political part with the religious part in the first half). However, there is good reason to believe, as we shall see later, that this relationship will be broken by the beast who will then move his headquarters to Babylon which will be rebuilt in the last days (cf. Rev. 17:16-18; 18:16-19). We will look at the rebuilding of Babylon in a later study.

I understand, and as it goes this is an excellent rule of thumb. I take this position as well much of the time, but I also take into account what the Spirit is saying to the churches (through prophetic utterances), as there are sometimes things which are revealed through prophecy, visions and dreams. The revelation that the gospel was to be extended to the Gentiles is a good example of this (Acts 10:3, 10-16).

I think the issue here for me would simply be one of consistency. Revelations states that the ten kings will hate the whore and burn her with fire. In one hour will her utter destruction come by fire, and she will be cast down, never to be seen again (Revelation 18:21).

Firstly this would seem to be inconsistent with what scripture says about the reign of the Antichrist. He will rule from Jerusalem until he is destroyed at the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ from Heaven, rather than by the ten kings.

Secondly, that Jerusalem would be utterly destroyed so as to never be seen again seems inconsistent with Revelation 21:2. I realize the "New Jerusalem" could be interpreted as a different city entirely, but it seems inconsistent to say that Jerusalem will never be seen again only to talk about a New Jerusalem existing forever soon thereafter.

But I certainly have no issue with the RCC personally. In fact, I kinda cringe when I think that Catholic friends might be reading a post like that. It's sad what will become of Rome in many ways, so I don't believe what I do out of spite for the RCC or any Catholic. I simply believe it's the proper interpretation of scripture.

That's not exactly what it says in Revelation 18, take a closer look at some excerpts, because I think this idea is based on inference than fact.

 

Revelation 18:8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day,
    death and mourning and famine,
and she will be burned up with fire;
    for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”

9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,

“Alas! Alas! You great city,
    you mighty city, Babylon!
For in a single hour your judgment has come.”

 

First thing is, her plagues come in a single day, and while she is burned up with fire, it is the Lord God judging her, not the ten kings.  In verse 9 you will notice the kings are sad about this, and in verse 10 they are standing far off from her.  Also, note that fire is not the only thing involved as we look further.

 

Revelation 18:21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence,
    and will be found no more;

 

When God judges her, is the second woe, and the third woe comes quickly.  This is all the end game, the ten kings only have authority for one hour, the same amount of time it takes for the city to be destroyed.  The place they are standing is where they have been gathered to fight Jesus, which is why they are outside the city and can see it burning from far off.  When the angel throws that great millstone into the sea, you get the great earthquake.

I didn't mean to imply that you personally did, what I was referring to is the entire theory is based on emotion.  It was born from the Reformation and delivered by Martin Luther who was at war with the RCC, and heavily persecuted by them.  Prior to that, there is no history of this theory existing, it is a modern theory in the grand scheme of things.

I understand, I completely disagree however, as there is no scripture to support it.  There are inferences and conclusions drawn from scripture, but no scripture that states or names Rome explicitly or symbolically at all.  I know the response will be that the early church couldn't name Rome because of the situation, but it didn't have to, John used symbolism in Revelation, and none of that is tied to Rome.  It directly points to Jerusalem in every instance, which I am going to show in a more detailed response to tigger.

I will lay out for you what scripture says in regards to this, and you will probably only get one other theory, possibly two to consider.  The main argument you will hear is that this is the RCC, so let's just examine what we know about mystery Babylon from scripture.

Read Exodus 28 tigger, in regards to the priestly garments God called the Jews to make.  You will note the colors, the jewels and even the gold plate that Aaron was instructed to wear, they all align with the descriptions in Revelation 17 regarding the harlot.  The RCC designed their garments in an effort to duplicate what God designed for Israel.  Since the Jews have not had levitical priests for several thousand years now does not diminish the fact that they will, once the temple is rebuilt and they reinstate practicing their beliefs.  It isn't about what we have seen, it is about what we will see at that time.

You also need to read Ezekiel 16, the entire chapter, in which you will find a scathing description of the great harlot, Jerusalem.  Also, check out Hosea, the prophet whose life was patterned after God's relationship with Israel.  Hosea was instructed by God to marry, you guessed it, a harlot.  I am just going to point you to a couple of key pieces of information to prove my point.  This scripture cannot be refuted, nor can this be said of any other place on earth, it is unique by its very definition.

This is the very last verse of Revelation 18, and is said directly of Babylon the great.

 

Revelation 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
    and of all who have been slain on earth.”

 

Now, what city can make such a claim?  Let's start first with something Jesus said.

 

Matthew 23:34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 38 See, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

 

Now this confirms that Jerusalem is Babylon, it is the only city in all of scripture that this is said of, and it can only apply to one city on earth.  The last verse in that passage, will confirm what is said in Ezekiel 16, Israel's condition as the mother of harlots has been in effect from the time of Ezekiel's prophecy until His return.  No one else fits the role given of the greatest harlot, even worse than Sodom.

To further expand on what is meant by the blood of all the prophets, saints, and all who have been slain on the earth being Jerusalem, look no further than what was accomplished at the cross.  What did Jesus do?  He defeated death and sin.  His blood atoned for all sin, and claimed victory over all death, and this event took place in Jerusalem!

One other fact that needs to be addressed is this.  Babylon cannot represent a religious belief, it is impossible!  Why?

 

Revelation 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,

“Come out of her, my people,
    lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;

 

Satan is setting up a religion for himself to be worshiped, one of the key components of this is accepting the mark of the beast.  If anyone takes the mark of the beast, they cannot be called out of that religion, they are dead, finished, done.  There is no coming back from it.  This is what Satan has been after from the moment he first rebelled against God, and he even tried to tempt Jesus into this.

 

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God
    and him only shall you serve.’”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

 

The RCC may be many things, but they don't worship Satan, that would be Alister Crowley's group.  But the point is, that it is not referring to a religious system anyway, or the call for His people to come out of her would make no sense at all.  It is Jerusalem, and that is what Christians should be watching for.   If you want to ask me anything else about it tigger, or want some more specifics I will be happy to respond, but other than that I will exit stage right.
